Just saw this on another site :-D

The average human walks 900 miles per year and drinks 360 pints of beer. That works out at 45 MPG. ;-)

My friend Bill ignored this warning you've had and now it's too late for him. You'll still be able to drink, just cut it right down to allow your liver to rejuvenate itself.

My gran used to make me laugh about her drinking. She drank gin and tonic. The first drink of the evening was a G and T. Everyone saw her drink several more but still be totally sober. What they didn't know was all the other drinks were just tonic. She always said once she'd had a G and T all the other drinks of tonic tasted as though there was gin in it, so why waste her money (or anyone buying her a drink)on buying more gin. :-D

Good luck in sorting this out. :-)

I presume.... you have to take medication to prevent the problems that you had leading to your by pass operation........ such as statins, these also can raise the enzymes level in your liver...... if your alcohol intake is on the high side this too will increase the chances of having a high reading.

Obviously you need the medication ..... so cutting down on the drinks is definitely the answer.

All best wishes, take care.

Well didnt want to say maybe you are drinking a wee bit too much but the results speak for themselves

At least you know that its is affecting your liver so you can take steps, before its got to be an addictive problem, to cut down

;-)

That must have been a shock!

If you are drinking down the pub, swap to a half instead of a pint and make it last. When you choose a low or non-alcoholic drink, your friends, if they are genuine, will support you.

Well, I got my comeuppance today. I had an appointment at the cardio clinic, annual follow up after my by-pass. The doctor told me that my last blood test shows that I have raised levels of an enzyme in my liver associated with drinking too much alcohol. It is not at a dangerous level, but will be if I don't cut down to a more reasonable level. I shall start counting the units from today. Watch this space.

That sounds like somebody from Sussex to me.

Looks like I am following Fred and his dad in skimming it until I got to around late thirties and then barely drinking at all.

Must be a local thing.

Until last night I would have said the last drink I had was New Year's Eve and that was 2 glasses of bubbly.

Last night I had a Guinness as it was St Patrick's Day and in honour of my Irish ancestors and really enjoyed it.

That is probably it until Christmas unless it is a hot summer and I might partake of a few ciders or citrus lagers.

I wasn't always like this.....More hangovers in my youth than I want to remember

Bob.

Im much the same. I may not drink that much for a few weeks then have a party/holiday/week home/or excuse and then my points go up.

Im currently working and commuting home so might go 2 -4 weeks without anything and then head away and we'd have a few.

Im not sure how much, each bottle of wine has a different value therefore glasses vary by amount and alc vol.
My son worked in rehab and had a great way to work it out which escapes me right now.

I love a few glasses with friends, especially if they are drinking too. By the same token Ive often been designated driver and whilst the concept bugs me, once I am out and watching I enjoy it!

They thought we sought to stay;
The Leith police dismisseth us
They thought we'd stay all day.
The Leith police dismisseth us,
We both sighed sighs apiece;
And the sighs that we sighed as we said goodbye
Were the size of the Leith police.

DOWN THE DRAIN
(The twelve bottles of whiskey).

I had twelve bottles of whiskey in my cellar and my wife told me to empty the contents of each and every bottle down the sink... or else! So, I said I would... and proceeded with the unpleasant task.

I withdrew the cork from the first bottle and poured the contents down the sink, with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I extracted the cork from the second bottle and did likewise with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I pulled the cork from the third bottle and poured the whiskey down the sink, with the exception of one glass... which I drank.

I then withdrew the cork from the fourth sink and poured the bottle down the glass... which I drank.

I pulled the bottle from the cork of the next and drank one sink out of it and threw the rest down the glass.

I pulled the sink out of the next glass and poured the cork from the bottle.

Then I corked the sink with the glass, bottled the drink and drank the pour.

When I had everything emptied, I steadied the house with one hand, counted the bottles, corks, glasses and sinks with the other, which were twenty-nine.
To make sure, I counted them again... they came to seventy-four.

And as the house came by, I counted them again, and finally I had all the houses and bottles and corks and sinks and glasses counted, except one house and one cork... which I drank.

I'm not under tha affluence of incohol as some tinkle peep I am. I'm not half as thunk as you might drink. I fool so feelish I don't know who is me, and the drunker I stand here, the longer I get.

I hardly drink at all. The last drink I had was at Hogmanay, before that Christmas.

I don't like it much, and since I developed balance problems find it better not to make things worse than they already are.

The other thing rarely taken into consideration is the strength.
A few glasses of 15% wine is a lot different to a few glasses of 8% wine.
I prefer low-alcohol wine, as I like the taste - a lot tastes like 'rustic' Portuguese wine, which I prefer to that 'matured in oak barrels' - which I can't stand.

Oak barrels are for whisky!!

I have just been having a tot-up, (no pun intended) My intake is probably nearer to 30 than 40, and I do go several days a week without. It seems to go in cycles. I may have very little for a couple of weeks, then holidays (worst time), parties, weddings etc. and I seem to be drinking a lot more. I have to admit to a liking for scrumpy, which fortunately is hard to find in London. I don't mean that gassy chemical stuff, but proper rough made with apples. I have my own apple crusher, (or scratter, for aficionados) and I have built a cider press which is very effective. I use whatever apples I can get my hands on, last year it was all from one tree and made 5 gallons of excellent stuff. I bottle some, and put some in a pressure barrel. I will go to the pub tonight to celebrate St Patrick's Day, even though I have no Irish blood in me, and don't much like Guinness.
