I had three small beers tonight (Tuesday).

Not the usual for me, I usually only drink on a Friday evening.

But........ it's St Paddy's Day :-D

I had to!! I have a teaspoon of Irish blood (my grandfather's grandmother's parents were Irish) :-D

I have a friend who's slowly dying. His liver is shot due to drink. He won't stop drinking so he's not on the list for a new liver.

I don't drink. Never bothered me. I do the driving and see what happens when people over indulge. Just remember within the next couple of years I will be at a funeral because it's too late for my friend Bill.

The nearest I come to drinking is using wine, beer or perry in cooking :-D

:-D :-D

the most I've managed in the last 4 or 5 years is 2 sips of OH champagne at New Year .................. twice!

Sharron

Sharron Report 17 Mar 2015 00:31

In a week of hard and dedicated drinking I sometimes get up to nearly two units.

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 17 Mar 2015 00:12

I don't drink at all ............. alcohol no longer likes me and makes me ill

OH likes 1 small drink before bed ............. usually about 1oz of port, or a spirit diluted with something. He'll also have 1 glass of wine or a bottle of cider if we go out to dinner anywhere other than our regular Japanese place, which is about once a month

so let's guess at a maximum of 8 or 9 units a week

The doctor sent him to see a dietician some years ago, and one of the questions she asked was "how much do you drink?"

On being told 1 drink at bedtime ................... he was told to see if he could drink less.

Personally ........... I think your amount of drinking is a bit high, and could lead to problems

It's not only the alcohol and associated kidney, liver, etc .............. but also the poundage put on

......... but that is not for any of us to say.

There was a young fellow named Sidney,
who drank 'til it shrivelled his kidney.
It shrivelled and shrank
as he drank and he drank,
but he had a good time at it, did'n he!

Florence61 Report 16 Mar 2015 23:42

Well ever since i had my children, I went off drink and very occasionally about twice a year will I have any. maybe in the summer if we get a visitor, then a chilled spritzer or a glass of cider to be sociable or xmas day i have 2 glasses of bubbly. Apart from that nothing.

living in a remote area means, one must always be fit to drive in an emergency. the hospital is 30 miles away so your own car maybe quicker than waiting for an ambulance.

To drink 30-40 drinks a week must mean you binge. So having a lot in one go like 10 pints on a sat eve really is not good for you. Could you bob go a whole week without alcohol and not miss it?

If you really couldnt then maybe you need to take stock and try and reduce your units.

Not preaching but you need to think of your liver not just now but in the future!

Reading this thread , I've realised that I'm almost Teetotal

Last time I had anything was Valentines day..... 1 bottle of beer.
Going out this coming weekend and I will probably have 2 bottles of beer.
(I detest wine)

For anyone planning to visit Scotland this year... remember that the dink driving limit was reduced last December and even one glass of wine could put you over limit for driving.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 16 Mar 2015 22:28

I would be unfit to drive after a glass of wine or a sherry - I would probably pass the breathalyser but be done for dangerous driving - :-D

alcohol works quickly on me so I leave it alone

When my mum was put on Warfarin, she mentioned that she 'likes a glass or two of wine in the evenings'.
This was duly taken into account when they dosed her up and checked her.
It meant that we (her family) had to make sure, when she visited that we had a few bottles of 'good' wine in, as she HAD to have 2 glasses of wine every night!!! :-S

These "limits" are a load of bx

My GGF owned a large share of a well known brewery and was inclined to be a good customer too. He died aged 90 of a chill caught swimming in the North Sea.

It is true though that beer makes you fat so best to stick to malt whiskey.

What is def. not a load of bx is that remarkably small amounts of alcohol have a terrible effect on reaction times. This does not help if you are out for a day's shooting. Even worse if you are driving and an emergency happens. Thus driving days cannot by and large be drinking days too which is one way to lose weight I guess.

If you like a few beers chances are you will end up wearing baggy trousers. Here is one of my rellies singing his heart out don't break the rules.

Heart specialist told me two glasses of wine a day is fine.

Not recommended to save them all up for Saturday :-D

I don't drink that much....... if I drank two glasses of wine every day I'd be permanently puggled.

Two or three small ( "middies" ) of beer on a Friday evening is my usual.

how much is too much ? such a good question.
1 drink is not enough 2 is too many?
After years of taking taxes like with the fags. they have now realised that maybe the medical bills from alcohol exceeds the revenue costs.

For your own health then owe much is up to you for some say that a glass of red wine each day is good for you, others say that a 2 day lay off is good for your your liver.

I say as long as your intake is moderate and you are happy with it ..well you have to go some way and pickled is good
:-D :-D
