My old chap is having 2 alcohol free days (actually evenings!) a week, but I reckon he makes up for it for the other 5 days/evenings, especially when the rugby's on :-D

I know it's not funny, but he is a very clean-living man apart from that - no other vices and he goes to the gym 3 times a week and walks 20 mins there and 20 mins back in all weathers.

However you dress it up, alcohol, in relatively small doses, is a poison. How much is too much depends on your age, sex and weight, but if your GP thinks you drink too much then he/she is probably right.

Men should not exceed 3-4 units a day

This is equal to a pint and a half of beer

So thats 21 - 28 units a week

It is also recommended that you have 2 days alcohol free in a week and not binge drink either

I hardly drink at all. Maybe 2 or 3 Bacardi and Cokes a week and the occasional glass of wine.

If your GP thinks you drink too much maybe you should listen to him/her. Long term damage is slow but unpleasant.

I regularly consume 30-40 units a week, mostly beer, some wine, and rarely spirits. Usually in a social situation, and rarely alone. I don't drink every day, never in the mornings and never secretly. I have a glass of a very good dry white in front of me now. I don't get drunk, well, rarely, never cause trouble and never drive after drinking. My doctor says I drink too much. Comments please.
