I like Batley.. it is old, dirty and run down.. a welcome change from the modern city centre we have here..

sort of quiet and ancient..lol laid back if you like..you can almost feel the industrial history in the blackened stones of the many old buildings

about 7 miles from me in Wakefield.. an old run down mill town really but if you like shopping one of the old mills has been converted to house loads of interesting outlets

you could make a day of it really if you go there and visit the church as well

Depending on your view of "warmer" you could be waiting quite a long while ...

Here is an easier approach
https://familysearch.org/learn/wiki/en/Batley,_Yorkshire_Genealogy

Batley is a fairly typical small Yorkshire industrial town def. not scenic or noted for warm weather though the people are warm and friendly. It has a good looking if a bit dour town hall while St Paul's church remains open. Tourists for any reason inc F.H. are rare birds. Def. not on Tory list of winnable seats.

There is a good choice of trad British cooking inc Asian. However the nearest outpost of civilisation is Leeds about 10 miles away as the pigeon flies.
