Sharron Report 20 Mar 2015 11:10

Writing that thread about bean sticks has reminded me of something funny about Fred's funeral.

As well as having the tanker pull in, we had his mate follow the coffin into the crematorium carrying a set of drain rods (newly purchased, still in the shed, any offers?) and the baseball cap he always wore when he went out.

The rods are about four feet long and we organized that his mate would lean the rods against the coffin, hang the hat on them , bow and back away, which he did.

When I took the rods into the funeral directors ready to be taken in the hearse, the funeral director asked me if I wanted them taken in as they were or if I would like her to screw them together.

Four, four foot long, flexible rods.

So, the back of the hearse would have to be open to let them stick out the back, with a bit of rag tied on them.

Fred's mate would walk into the chapel in a dignified manner with a sixteen foot pole flapping about in his hand and how the Hell would he get the hat on it before he stood it up against the end of the coffin?
