To mis-quote Mae West, (I think), I like to wake up every morning feeling a new woman. Cor blimey, ain't done that for forty years. I wake up every morning now next to and old woman!! I wish I hadn't said that. Bob W

About twenty- five years ago the wife of my friend who had the scrapyard died. She was forty- four, about seven years older than I was, and she appeared to start a trend.

My cousin died not many years later at the age of fifty- two and my school-friend died. My contemporaries have been dropping off thick and fast since then, including the man who owned the scrapyard himself.

One of my contemporaries, however, and I am sixty- two, recently posted on FB that she was celebrating her fifty- second birthday. This would have been quite insignificant had she not been one of those who had 'had to get married' at sixteen and now has a forty-six year old daughter.

I have to laugh at those celebrities who alter their age along the way when those of the same era know exactly how old they are.

I am a few days older than a famous singer of the 60s. The singer's shares a birthday with my sister so it's easy for me to remember.

Some years ago the singer shaved several years off their age and I laughed. Now however they have gone back to their real age so they can be told how wonderful they look :-D

I do agree though Dizzi when your contemporaries start to die it's a shock. One of my aunts died about 18 months before my eldest cousin. I was very shocked by my cousin's death, far more than my aunt's. I thought my cousin as my generation although she was much older. My aunt was only 3 years older than my cousin so they were very nearly the same age when they died.

You start seeing friends go, then you realise that you're a pensioner and your children are catching up with you :-D The cry of "where's my youth gone" is common and "I was only 30 the other day"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This was my late mother's answer to age. I asked how she felt on my sister's 50th birthday to have both children in their 50s. Her answer - "I'm not getting any older so you're both catching me up". :-D

I'm with you Dizzi, I'm growing old disgracefully it's so much more fun :-D

and to aging gracefully :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P :-P
