I have just come on my Genes Reunited tonight and my tree has disappeared-- seven years hard work -- please help ! Has this happened to anyone else

contact support sometimes they come back
its really does pay to gedcom your tree often to your email address just in case

I do hope they can sort it for you :-( :-(

Thanks for your reply. I have contacted support. I havent deleted it myself so I dont know what has happened . I had about 3,500 people on it

On Google someone said delete your temporary files,cache,cookies etc as it may be struggling to load it , then it may work and amazingly it did

Oh, Julie, with that many people in your tree you really ought to have a copy on a family tree program on your home computer and to be extra safe a copy on a memory stick or cd. I certainly wouldn't trust GR with your only copy.

Ive now sent it using Gedcom to my email address and it has sent me an email saying that it has done this but now when I open it - it just comes up in a long list of numbers and all the information that is on my tree written in this list
I s this what it is supposed to do ??

Julie sweetie,you have to have a family tree software program on your computer to feed the Gedcom into for it to work properly.

Right ok (scratching head now with totally confused look on face ) can I put it on a memory stick instead then would that work ???

You can certainly put it on to a memory stick, which most of us would advise anyway, but you still won't be able to make head nor tail of it.

You need to download/purchase a family history programme which converts the gedcom to a format you can read.

There are a number of ones you can purchase and some basic ones which are free. This link may give you an oversight

Many people on GR have bought Family Tree Maker which usually includes a sub to Ancestry.co.uk. I and others have Family Historian. There are many more. Horses for Courses............and budget!

yes Julie it needs to be put onto a family tree program if you want to read it

but keep it to your email as if it goes missing again
you can import it back to GR as it is

and that's ok or even import it to other sites to :-D :-D
