I enjoy doing jigsaws and usually have one on the go. I get given them as presents, and at other times buy them at car-boots and charity shops. I have had the occasional missing piece, but usually they are excellent value -- until the other day!!

I bought a jigsaw that looked new, with a picture of Bodiam Castle in the middle, reflected in the moat, and surrounded by sky, trees and water.

I thought I got the pieces spread out quicker than usual, but as they had been sorted ino groups (sky, edges etc) in the box (irritating!!) I didn't think much of it.

Until I started making the puzzle --- when it dawned on me that the castle was MISSING!! Someone's idea of a joke, I suppose - or they wanted to keep the castle but not the rest of it! :-( :-( :-(

It is now in the paper/card recycling bin.

If it was a car boot sale, you could say that it was fraud. On the other hand if you bought it at a charity shop, at least they have benefitted.

It was a charity shop. At £1.99 the cost is immaterial - I was just slightly miffed!!

Disappointing more than anything. Perhaps it would be useful if charity shops put the puzzles together before selling them. Not likely though unless they are lucky enough to have a volunteer who is an enthusiast.

Might be an idea to mention it to the shop so they are aware this can happen.
I like puzzles but no time to do them here. I did do one on holiday lsst year in Tideswell, so might get one to take with us for this holiday.

I suppose that it IS possible if the puzzle was part of a house clearance, etc, the donor didn't know bits were missing.........

So sad to hear of your disappointment. In the charity shop where I volunteer we have a system for jigsaws. They are clearly marked "Checked" or "Unchecked" and are priced accordingly. Some go home with volunteers as do board games to make sure they are complete.

We all try to do what we can to maximise the value of the donations. Some things get taken home to be washed, buttons replaced or a stitch put in. Any unsaleable metal objects are sold for scrap. Seedlings are potted on and surplus home grown fruit and veg. are sold in season.

We don't have the facilities to check electrical goods so redirect people to the charity shop up the road that can do this.

In a fast moving world where so many people are lonely, volunteering is a great chance to meet a real mix of people of all ages, make new friends and have fun! We all found it a bit scary to go in and ask if we were needed but were welcomed with open arms. If you have ever thought of volunteering GIVE IT A TRY!

I reckon somebody started to do it and sorted out all the brick bits then gave up and the brick bits got forgotten!.

If you like puzzles have a look at these sorting trays got them as a top-up present for the OH who is a puzzle fan she found them really useful.
