Despite putting them somewhere colder my eight day old seedlings are now 3"-3.5" tall but it is far too cold outside here for them to go out. Is it safe to thin them out now and as long as they have sufficient water to leave them in the shed as I am trying to slow them down a little till it's safe for them to go outside. |

So easy to grow but if not deheaded and left to seed they will invade and be everywhere, they are horrible smelly things. |

I have self-seeded English marigolds in my garden. |

We grow French marigolds, they usually germinate very quickly, We prick the seedlings out into small pots when they have about two sets of leaves then plant them out end of may first week in June (Gloucestershire). If you leave the seedlings in the tray the roots will all tangle and be more difficult to separate to plant out. |

I grow the British kind and the African types. The first are quite hardy and have a kind of toothed seed. The others are half hardy and the seeds are longish with a black tail. Beware of slugs and snails on young plants. |

My bedding goes out about mid May. I thin them into separate cells and keep them in the greenhouse until starting to harden them off at beginning of May |

Our neighbour grows them from seed - not too sure when they can go out except they are more like 3"- 4" when they are. |

Has anyone ever grown marigold seeds? I started some off on Tuesday for the first time and they were supposed to take 7- 21 days to germinate. I now already have around 100 seedlings around 1"-1.5". I know they need to be a bigger before planting them outside. Does anyone know when they can be planted outside? |
