Don't things taste like they used to do??
I bought some loose, dirty Jersey Royal potatoes today to see if they would taste any better than they have for the last few years.....

Nooooo!!...they were just like any other bland potato....I seem to remember they were a golden colour...these were white.

I believe it's because they can't use the methods they used to use....anyone had any good ones? :-S

Shop ones are full of mayonnaise, and tasteless lettuce, Dizzi.
My poor children were only offered marmite sandwiches.
Daughter used to take an 'emergency' marmite sandwich for her firstborn. (now aged 13) when she went out - to avoid having to buy overpriced sandwiches.
Now she takes 'emergency' breadsticks and hummus for her 2nd and 3rd born (5 and 7), a big change in 6 years!!!

I hate potatoes with scabby bits in and the jersey royals from our morrisons had to have lots of bits cut away. I rarely peel or even scrape potatoes but refuse to cook them with nasty bits in. They didn't taste that special.

What also bugs me is why so many products have lots of black or white pepper in. I can't eat peppery or spicy food as the inside of my mouth reacts badly and it also means I can't taste the real flavour of what I am eating. It's not just in cheap foods, it's in better quality sausages or such and really spoils my enjoyment. I'd much rather have the items plainer and add my own choice of condiment etc.

Your 2nd para certainly strikes a cord Liz :-| I can't tolerate anything from the Chilli family. Its amazing how its sneaked in to so many prepared products/sauces.

Some of the problems with 'natural' foods could be down to our changing taste buds - as we age, some people need a stronger flavour, others a more delicate one + our memories do play tricks on us.

Could it be that some foods, i.e. livestock are reared for meat very quickly, and this can have the effect of not having much flavour. ( i have definitely found that), also things like strawberries, tomatoes, very watery. Scottish raspberries are good because they take longer to ripen and mature.
