Even my depraved sense of humour could not have come up with (no pun intended) that name :-D :-D :-D :-D :-D

Wonderful, a person with my sort of sense of humour. Our local sandwich shop was called Beautiful Baps but the do gooders with no sense of humour made them have to change it. :-| :-| :-| :-| :-P. What a miserable lot of B****rs live in this world these days.

We have two pubs in the village and we are a bit tribal I think.

One pub has gone well up-market and you have to save up to go in there.

The other one has had one or two unfortunate landlords over the years but remained a not too bad pub.

A new landlord took over last year. The first thing he did was to advertize in the parish magazine for jars because they would be making jam and chutney to sell for some charity (a children's charity, naturally). He wasn't particularly welcoming to a woman who dropped some in before he deemed it necessary to open his doors and certainly not the one she had come to, she had to walk along the side of the busy road to his chosen door.

The hall that was useful for meetings, that is the hall that used to be the skittle alley until some previous miracle working landlord decided he had come from the city to turn this into a proper country pub and took it out, is now a dedicated restaurant but is so badly lit the menu is very hard to read.

A woman from the village was told just how filthy the pub was by his mother and just how many hours of scrubbing she had had to carry out for him, always a cheap way to convey ones own exactingly superior standards with no proof at all!

Worst of all, he has, without consulting the locals, decided that the pub, which must have had the same name for a good two centuries, needed to be re-named.

No doubt it will soon have another name, the Co-Op, because the locals don't appear to be flocking in despite the Loyalty card for locals he has said we can apply for and the locals nights he has decided we want.

It would be pretty difficult to justify RR'ing a pub name in a link to a newspaper :-D

Having said that, old sourbutts has done so before.

There's a brewery/of licence in Bristol called The Brewers Droop :-D

maggiewinchester - I'm a bit slow today. Could you elaborate please?

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 30 Apr 2015 15:45

Elaborate? On what - the 14:13 post or the 14:19 one :-D

Dermot

Dermot Report 30 Apr 2015 15:46

Your choice!

maggiewinchester

maggiewinchester Report 30 Apr 2015 15:52

Well, the 14:13 one refers to the fact that Mr Magoo's post hasn't been RR'd. :-D

the 14:19 one refers to a band named after a shop!!
:-D :-D :-D

Which, in turn refers to some sort of problem...............

I think this might be the answer.

A pub is a place that looks a bit like a house. You can go in it and buy some liquid that you drink there that makes you act in a strange way if you drink too much of it.

An off licence is very similar but you have to take the liquid to a park bench or somewhere round the back of the bus station where you will often find other people who have already bought some drinking theirs.
