Have you looked at your mum's birth cert?

Do you know who her parents were?

Once you have your grandparents then we can all help you go back further. TV shows make everything look very quick and easy but it's going to take you ages

What you need to do is have a really good look at your Mum's and your Aunt Lynn's birth certs.
It will give the name of your Nan and Grandad and also the maiden name of your Nan,
What occupation your grandad had.

Then send for the birth cert for your Nan from 1928 which will give the details of your Nan's mum and Dad and his occupation and also her mother's maiden name.

Let us all know when you have had a good look.
Then we maybe able to take you further back.

You are going to have to look at the birth certificate but if you go with Partridge I found this. Edit - can't find a McCarthy marriage but can a McDonald so looked for a Phyllis D birth and got this. Who registered the babies - see the birth cert as my husband has the wrong mmn on his, for some reason his father put his mother's stepfather's surname down when she'd always been known by her father's surname.
