The saga of the water heater

Three months ago last week I had a new hot water system installed.

There was absolutely nothing wrong with the old one but the housing association was fitting a new kitchen and it was in the way so, as they were also fitting solar panels and storage heaters, the contraption was planted, in all it's splendour, in the corner of the front bedroom.

Since then I have not had more than one tank of water without having to call in an electrician.

I told them the thermostat was faulty but what do I know?!

There was also so much silver solder free in the system that I have needed four tap washers replacing in the intervening time.

I eventually spoke to the heating manager at the housing association who said he would speak to the contractors. I had also spoken to the contractors and insisted that they replace the thermostats on the basis that my guess was as good as that of anybody else.

Last week the contractors sent out an electrician with one thermostat which he installed after moving the other to the other tank(!).

Since then, I have had four baths and as much hot water as I can use, oh joy.

The heating manager having been very firm with the contractors, they are coming out on Wednesday to install a whole new water heater!

More upheaval! Will that one have adequate thermostats? They are probably thrown together by eight year olds in a Korean shed.

Oh well. Here we go again!

Oh dear - let's hope they do the job properly.
Unfortunately, the only thing you can do is complain.
I had such a reputation with the last heating contractors, they ended up sending a poor wee lad, who was literally quivering as I answered the door. I was as nice as pie with him, we even ended up joking about his superiors, and the 'he men' who were too afraid to call :-D

I try desperately not to call anyone out. About 15 years ago, my loo was reluctant to flush. I looked at the cistern, and moved the connection from the lever to the ballcock to it's furthest extent. It has worked okay, until a couple of months ago. I'm now fed up with lifting the cistern lid and holding the ballcock down, before the loo will flush.
I have a man coming out tomorrow, I think I may need a new cistern :-(

I've never worked out why water heaters and boilers are been installed in bedrooms.

My immersion heater and boiler are in my bedroom, which is the main (ie largest) bedroom, so the one most likely to be slept in. I don't have my heating on a timer, as it wakes me up :-(

The engineer wanted to put a boiler in my bedroom but I told him he'd have to find somewhere else to put it.
