I heard the cuckoo soon after it was let out but have not heard it since.

Bob..i just surmised that was what he was doing....

I usually don't see them so i was amazed when i saw this one just sitting there..
hope he doesn't sit there again or the local cats will have him, they are such a nuisance killing the birds. :-(

Cuckoos don't eat seeds Stella. If they lay their egg in a linnet nest they may not survive as linnets will feed them seeds.

Country folk love to hear the cuckoo's first call because it means that summer was on its way. For us as schoolchildren, that also indicated that the summer holiday away from our school books was fast approaching.

i have had one sitting on the gate would you believe.. i think he was trying to fathom out how to get food from the small feeder i put out for the robin and sparrows.

He wasn't singing tho'..lol

I don't suppose its the first heard this year
but I heard my first 2015 cuckoo at around 2:30 pm on Wednesday afternoon, at Norman Cross,near Yaxley, Peterborough.

sad to realise that some other birds' chicks were kicked out of their nest by this alien creature...........
