Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 28 May 2015 15:46

Went today to pick up Mr Tibbs the two year old from Cats Protection.

Understandably he cried all the way home in his basket ,but once in the house he jumped out the basket and took a look around the lounge

He did jump on the sofa and then walk across the arm onto my lap in the armchair and the settled himself down in my arms . he did a couple of resettling to get comfy and then settled and purred

I had to go out again so left him with OH and after I went he laid at his feet on his back .

When I got back from the small shopping trip Mr Tibbs had gone somewhere.. Cant see him but he has tucked himself in somewhere as he couldn't get out of the house.

No doubt when he wants his evening meal he will resurface

Think we are all going to get on fine ;-) ;-) ;-) ;-)

I think he is one canny cat - he's already twisted you round his little finger (or claw). How lovely that he seems to have made himself at home already It sounds as though Mr Tibbs and his new owners are going to be getting along just fine :-D :-D

you're lucky with Mr Tibbs - when I got my rescue cat home he was not happy - I left him in the conservatory overnight and he just about wrecked it - for the next few weeks he hid behind the TV and only ventured out briefly to eat - it took a long time for him to become comfortable and now he's the most adorable cat I've ever had

we hope so. silly thing is you think you cant move on when losing a much loved pet so close yourself up

i was so devastated to lose our old girl I got rid of all her things .except her cat basket that was almost an antique, we got it for our first cat some 38 years ago and is whicker and was one of the ones the Blind folks would make

No way could you buy one now as they don't make them

Am happy now to talk about our girl Mirabelle and feel maybe she is saying move on

I hope so.

we had looked to rehome an older female cat but guess our Karma was NOO this is the guy for you

Ah Shirley.Mr Tibbs is a very lucky puss. There are so many poor cats/kittens/dogs/puppies all needing lovely new Forever Homes.

I have a beautiful long haired black and white cat sitting on my foot at the moment. He turned up in our garden 3 days ago and has been here ever since.I have knocked on all the doors in the road but no-one owns or knows it.Nothing on local lost and found sites .
I took it to the vets yesterday to see if it was micro chipped .But he isn't.He is a neutered male 3-4 years old and very healthy.I am wondering with it being half term maybe it's family has gone on holiday..Who knows. If I can't find where it comes from he will definitely have a home here :-D :-D

You are never going to forget your lovely Mirabelle ,but will have plenty of happy times now with Mr Tibbs <3

Oh how lovely. <3. We had to say goodbye to our very old lady yesterday after over 18 years. We will not get another though as we still have 3 others here. I wish you all lots of happiness together and I am sure Mr.Tibbs is going to live a very happy loving life

Maybe Mirabelle picked out Mr Tibbs for you, knowing he would fit in well. I hope he gets you trained very soon and you enjoy each others company for a long time.

I am envious, not in a position to have pets here and despite being brought up with tnree cats, my son has become allergic to cats so he wouldn't be able to visit. His fiancee loves cats too so is disappointed they can't give one a home.

My sister re-homed a cat last year - he's about 5 and had a bad start in life. He had no fur on his tail or back half of his body, due to an untreated flea infection, and an infection in his paws. He was always after food and would wolf it down as if unsure he would get another meal. He is now sleek and glossy and sis has had to cut back on food as he's beginning to get pudgy! Looks like a different cat :-)

Well when I went to bed.he followed me upstairs ,I,wasn't aware of him til he came into the study and wrapped himself around my legs as I sat at the PC .

I decided to go to bed and as soon as I was in bed he was up on the bed for a stroke and then settled at my feet.

He later went downstairs but came up with hubby when he came to bed

I woke up at about 6 to see him laying outside the bedroom door . He came in a bit later and jumped up on hubby for a stroke then across to me where he laid very contently on my chest as he accepted strokes whilst looking around the room

We are downstairs now, he has had his Felix and is now on my lap as I type this on my IPad

Think I can say he is feeling ok at being with us :-D

My friend and his wife foster cats sometimes just short term and other times a bit longer. Five years ago she fostered a cat called Molly- Sue who was then aged between 12 and 15 years old. She belonged to an older lady who found herself no longer able to cope with Molly's care. Unfortunately due to her age nobody wanted to adopt Molly and give her a forever home so my friends wife who was fostering her at the time decided she would take Molly-Sue on permanently herself as she had none of her own at that time. Molly-Sue still loves the garden and lying the sun. They have now added one more cat permenantly to the family an 11 year old called Sweep who had a rough start and the two cats get on well. They still continue to foster other cats on a short term basis but have agreed not to take on another one permenantly. Thankfully Molly-Sue and Sweep are now used to odd occasional house guest.

Shirley~I,m getting the hang of it Report 29 May 2015 16:21

Thank you Barbra

It was a big decision for both of us to get another Puss. neither wanted to push each other so we both said nothing

it was only a chat about missing having a cat that we both opened up and said maybe we should think about it again despite all our protestations on why we wouldn't go that route again

Mr Tibbs is asleep on the floor behind hubbys armchair at the moment . Our adult grandaughter has been for a visit and he was OK with her and accepted some strokes from her too

he has to be kept in for a month but at the mo he seems content anyway to be indoors

How nice that Mr Tibbs has settled so well. You will have to get used to him following you about so he doesn't trip you, I guess you are out of the habit.

Enjoy him,

I sounds like you're going to have a very happy ending Shirley.

Many years ago some friends who had stables asked if we'd take in a lovely little white Persian cat who had been abandoned and living rough there for a few months. We went and collected her, she was scruffy and quite traumatised. Took her straight to the vets for a once over, she was healthy. Took her home, she didn't take to the other cats so settled her into an unused room and made her comfortable for the night. That night turned into two years - nothing, nothing at all would entice her out. She had everything she needed in there and wasn't budging.Tried everything, no joy. Thought she may be better off in a household where she was an "only cat" - no takers. She was happy enough because we'd both spend a lot of time in there with her, it was my "quiet place" to read or use laptop and she'd happily snuggle up. Wasn't happy with the situation but what was the alternative? Put her in the cat shelter? - she was safe and happy where she was and quite comfortable.
Anyhow, after 2 years she one night decided she was going to venture forth - down the stairs she trots (we never shut her in that room), smacks the cat sitting in my lap and takes it's place. From that day forth she ruled the roost, came and went as she pleased and mingled well with the others.

So Shirley, you seem to have gained a lovely and well adjusted friend.

I've got 3 siblings, 2 boys - George and Mister, and a girl, Betty, all born here from a rescue cat I was assured had been neutered. I was going to keep Mother (a beautiful tabby, that I had neutered as soon as I could) and kittens (also neutered ASAP), but the mother became aggressive to the kittens, as they grew and started getting under my duvet and wetting my bed :-(
I realised she wanted to be an 'only' cat. I had a choice, keep mum or the kittens. The kittens were 2 x black males, one of which - Mister - had a deformed tail (lack of amniotic fluid), non-retractable claws , and was/is bog ugly, but very affectionate - which is bl**dy painful!!!
George is just a skinny, longer than normal, over enthusiastic lover of play. The third one is a fluffy, nervous, 'midget' black and white female - Betty - with, well, one can only say an out of proportion (huge) area at the back end.

I realised 1 cute tabby had more chance of adoption than any black cat, let alone a deformed ugly one, or cute looking one, until her rear end was disclosed, so I returned 'mum' to the Cat's Protection people - she was re-homed within a week - and I kept the kittens.
The 'kittens' - now just turning 9, aren't the most 'pally' of cats. They sleep in separate rooms. George sleeps on my bed, Mister in the spare room and Betty downstairs.
They (or rather George) will occasionally instigate a 'play' fight (but blood is never drawn). They acknowledge each other in passing, and will sit in a line to be dried when they come in from the rain - which is another 'oddity' - they like rain!.
They NEVER snuggle up to each other. but have never been nasty to humans, not even the grandchildren, and the lady from Cat's Protection who feeds them when I go away absolutely adores them.
Betty hides whenever there is thunder or fireworks - it used to be under the stairs, then under the bath, then under my bed. I have a new sofa that she can get under, which is now her favourite 'hidey hole', and I prefer it, as I can talk to her while she's under there.
By 'talk', mean gently tell her, that, at her age she knows it's not going to get her, and she's a pain in the neck ;-)
But, they're cute.
I can usually hide the lacerations from the non-retractable claws of Mister - they're mainly on my legs (he loves to drag himself onto my lap) or on my shoulder. He sits on the armchair behind me, when I'm on the computer and 'grabs' my shoulder for attention. :-|
If that fails, he sits on my 'mouse' hand, He weighs a stone (he eats rodents to supplement his constant supply of food) :-| :-|

My Desmond is winding down his life now. He is fourteen and was a stray but he spends most of his time asleep across my arm, his mostest favouritest place in the whole wide universe bar none.

I have food on the window-sill for the local strays and his successors are auditioning already.

I think he knows because he doesn't bother to shoo them off anymore. Mr Laid-back and confident I think.

Well Mr Tibbs is settling in OK

One week on he is a very sweet boy . He follows me around and has now found his bed on the upstairs landing outside our bedroom .

We had a feed programme given to us do one pounch of plain .Feiix in Jellly in the morning and Purina dried in the evening but he seems to need more

I give him one jelly pounch first thing but later he wants more so,I give him a half pouch , later when he is indicating he wants more I give him the other half of the pouch
Later on he gets his palm size Purina adult that he eats

Bought a ratty toy today that he has flung around and given a big going at

He too saw a cat in the garden through the patio doors and my his tail went very fluffed out
We had been told he doesn't like other cats in his garden

Hope when when are able to let him out he doesn't have a cat fight
He is such a lovely boy we are so so glad we got him
