I also used to get a bag of broken biscuits from Woolworths as a child. Now they do a box full in the factory shop with a choice of plain or with chocolate but I now avoid as I can do without the calories.

My brother once when he was young went to Woolworths and asked to buy some broken biscuits which children often did. The new shop assistant said in a surprised voice "broken biscuits" we dont have those. Another assistant said aww go on, break some up for him. True this.

You must have gone to a posh school. Our school dinners consisted of bread and dripping, but we only got fed after an hour on the treadmill, or picking oakum.

When I was young we lived quite close to the Chiltonian biscuit factory and Mum used to go there and buy a huge brown paper bag of broken biscuits for a shilling. My favourites then were Bourbon biscuits and if I found a whole one I thought I'd hit the jackpot.

I remember in the Home and Colonial stores, they had large tins of biscuits, with glass lids so you could see what was inside.
:-D

Why do you think I buy them?

Our local bakers sold biscuits by weight . They had big tins of biscuits on show and you selected the ones you wanted

inevitably each tin would get left with broken ones so they would put em in one big tin to sell off at reduced price

We LOVED broken biscuits , mum would buy the whole tins and it was like christmas foraging for each sort of biscuit , custard cream ones were especially snapped up

Mum would make crumble with the plain ones so nothing went to waste :-D

When I was little my Mum used to own a shop and we used to sell biscuits by weight out of the tins. Including broken biscuits. One day at off school with tonsillitis I was sitting nice and quiet playing on the shop floor. ;-)

The tin of broken biscuits was empty so I was being helpful and filling it from the other tins :-D :-D :-D.

The next time we're near an Iceland, we'll have to make a special effort to look.
The milkman used to sell them, but not any more. Wish I could remember which biscuit manufacturers it was!

Iceland, The Range. Anywhere a bit classy really.

Can you still get them? My Dad used to buy them at a factory he used to visit, from the staff shop.

I don't know how they get away with it.

Most of them aren't even broken.

Broken biscuits contain a lot less fat.

So, after you buy a packet of biscuits, give it a good few thumps with a large wooden spoon - then enjoy yourself. :-D

We eat biscuits but they don't make up a large part of our diet.

If I buy a packet of biscuits I know what is in it and it sits in the cupboard, unopened, until the last packet is finished .

However, should I buy a box of broken biscuits, that is quite a different matter.

A box of broken biscuits in hardly in the back door before the scissors are out and I am in there seeing what I've got.

They don't get eaten any more quickly but, until I grow up, I have to have a sort through the box to see what wonders it contains.
