good news indeed

Inverdale ‘sacked’ by BBC over sexist Bartoli comments, Balding to take over

As far as excuses go, John Inverdale's efforts at "explaining" his offensive comments about Marion Bartoli at Wimbledon last year were pretty hopeless, and reportedly he has now paid the price.

According to a report in The Sun newspaper, Inverdale has now been axed from hosting BBC Radio Five Live's Wimbledon coverage over his sexist comments about Bartoli, with Clare Balding to take his job.

The 56-year-old was roundly criticised for saying: "I wonder if her dad did say to her when she was 12, 13, 14, 'Listen, you’re never going to be a looker'.

"'You’re never going to be somebody like a Sharapova, you’re never going to be somebody with long legs, so you have to compensate for that.'"

The BBC received more than 700 complaints over the comments and Culture Secretary Maria Miller even wrote to director-general Tony Hall over the incident.

A BBC source told the newspaper: "John’s comments were seen as totally unacceptable and the people in charge don’t want to take the risk of another incident.

As his comments were2 years ago could it be more about not being able to present for BBC as he has to do his ITV job during the tennis? :-S

Indeed "Inverdale continues to front ITV's tennis coverage, where Bartoli is one of his co-presenters."
so not sacked at all, just reshuffled. Apparently his remarks at Cheltenham don't count. He remains on the BBC team too.

Marion is a super person and more than capable of dealing with the barbs of John Inverdale having had endless practice with her father. My other half is a very Latin lady too and imho they are both very pretty.
