AnnMarie

yes it can be stupid things that cause an outbreak

I love going on trips ............. but found that I would have an attack a couple of hours before setting off, whether that was to the airport, the train station or by car.

I would be really looking forward to the trip, would have done all the planning ..... so why????

As soon as I realised that .............. I started to take 1 or 2 Imodium after the first bout. That stopped the too rapid muscle contractions of the intestines which is what causes the diarrhea form of IBS that I have ....... and allowed me to travel with no worries.

Thanks for your comments Sylvia,Maggie and Brenda.
They were very helpful.
I think mine is brought on by stress but its the little things that seem to worry me most. Stupid me.
Feeling a bit better today as I also have had a bad bout of sciatica this last few weeks but it seems to be easing off today.

Back to docs tomorrow to see what she has to say.

Thank you all again for taking the trouble to reply.

AnnMarie. <3 <3

I have diverticular disease and occasionally it flares up into diverticulitis.I know it is very common with women more than men.
I find that I can manage it most of the time by steering clear of red meat and I have bought myself a nutri bullet to make smoothies etc .
Eating at regular times also helps.
2 years ago I had 11 polyps removed during a colonoscopy and last years check was found to be clear.the stress I had with caring for my husband for 5 years was partly to blame.
Interesting to find out how others handle it.

I had IBS many years ago when working long hours in sales ..and I think the 2 conditions are related.

I suffer(ed) from both IBS and diverticular disease. I still have them, but since giving up permanent work (I now temp) symptoms of both have subsided incredibly, as has my work related stress and all the other symptoms I suffered..
Who would have thought financial insecurity would be less stressful than working for a County Council!!! :-S

I do

I've kept a diary for years, listing all food and drink ingested every day, and details of when and if IBS symptoms occurred

I now know which foods to avoid, how much water and clear tea I can drink per day

I've also discovered that stress can be a problem, so try to avoid ALL stress.

If all else fails, I take 1 oe 2 imodium (as I have that variant of it)
