Enjoyed it but can anyone recall the series Michael Bentine recorded - I seem to remember 'spouts' coming up out of sand?

Yes, Oliver Postgate, the original narrator had such a distinctive voice and manner of speaking.

I think Michael Palin is quite good though.

OH mourned the original series - he says that the new one is too slick. He also misses the original narrator!

Its still set to record the series although I'm not sure if we'll watch them. You can't turn back the clock.

We saw it, a big wind came.

It seemed very like the previous Clangers, just the voice was different. I loved it.
