It went to the Family Law Court, and the judge overturned the ruling of the 1st judge.

Recently in Oz, a man took his wife to court (no idea of their circumstances) because she was breast-feeding their child......... just after she had a tattoo.

The judge ruled that she should stop breastfeeding.

The story is here, if you're interested....

DetEcTive,

The same rule applies in Australia where they are crying out for blood donors. It's very frustrating because I was a blood donor in the UK prior to emigrating to Oz. Now I am no longer able to donate, which is a shame as my blood group is A rhesus negative

I've been turned away because of insect bites. They were British mozzies, not even Furin' ones!

If you've lived for any length of time in Britain, the US won't accept your donation. Despite having the disease themselves, they are too scared that you may have CJD (Mad Cow disease in humans)

As Pat says, it's only if you've had a recent tattoo - I had the same problem years ago when I had my ears pierced - I had to wait a few months before being allowed to donate again.

I guess it was in case the instruments used for piercing might not have been sterile, and could have contaminated the blood, fear of spreading things like hepatitis etc.

It isn't something new, it's been there for years. ONLY NEW TATOOS WITHIN 4 MONTHS OF BEING DONE - AFTER THAT YOU'RE OK.

I was a blood donor so was my husband, he managed almost 70 donations so we are both used to reading when we may be excluded. The only time he had problems was due to temporary medication - antibiotics. I was excluded due to pregnancies and operations.

I think I read a letter recently where a vet said he had seen the green ink from ID tattoos in pigs ears elsewhere in the body.

According to this it's only for a short while after the tattoo has been done.

I feel that the number of tattoos, at least those on public view, cannot be so great as to cause no more than a ripple of concern. Too many scare stories, possibly.

Of course, there are other more worrying reasons to exclude donations.

link between tattoos and blood donations. There has always been a hue and cry for blood donations but apparently this is greater than ever because a blood donation will not be taken from a person with a tattoo.
