Three years ago, daughter and her family came to visit, we parked in a certain underground parking lot and went for dinner. We noticed there was a concrete post to the driver's side, dark-coloured car next to the passenger side

Came back to find dent and big white streaks all down the passenger side, and a redd-ish car parked next to us.

Obvious conclusion ...... dark car left, white car came and scraped down the side either while parking or leaving.

No note left, of course.

OH drove it like that for about 18 months, finally got around to getting it repaired late last year after he'd backed into a post when parking :-) ............ turned out that a couple of panels had to be replaced, plus repainting. It cost us ca £500

Blow me, if he doesn't come to pick me from physio in December, parks in the same parking lot, and he himself scrapes the passenger side down one of the posts! Yes, exactly the same area that had just been re-done

He was trying to get into a space that would make it easy for me to get into the car (I was having a bad time with my back and leg), but mis-judged his distance.

Quotation was for approximately £600 .............. after the guy had stopped laughing!

He's still driving it with the scrape all down the side.

The local smash repair man told us that most of his work is for cars that have been bashed in the local supermarket carpark! :-(

Most of them have no idea who bashed into them.

I couldn't do that........ if I hit another car I'd leave a note. I'm definitely in the minority.

If I have to use a space in a carpark because of carpark being full, and I end up between large cars, I take a photo showing tightness of space and including number plates.

Might be worth reporting the incident to the supermarket and asking about cctv, Scozz

Mind you, some people are just stupid. O.h. came back from work one afternoon and parked his old car in front of the house. He had transferred it to my name as we had another newer car on the drive which we were going out in later. The neighbour was home and parked his old jeep in front of my car. We were sitting in the lounge when we heard a bang and saw my car shunted backwards. Idiot neighbour had reversed into my car and wrote it off. As it was old we only got about £250 from insurance but it was worth more than that to us. His excuse, well you don't usually park out front!

Just like our Singer Vogue Sharron

I was worried OH would get killed in it as it seemed to be a target too

Sharron Report 26 Jun 2015 12:14

I bought an Avenger estate once. It was cheap because it had two dented doors which I re-skinned (not very hard really, I managed to do it with supervision).

It was not long before I understood why it had those big dents.

Somewhere on that car was an invisible target.

Everything drove into it.

Parking spaces aren't necessarily getting smaller, but cars are getting wider.

Our 1965 estate was built with garages. There are only a couple of households who can use it as such, and they have nothing stored in there. Our neighbour says if she put on weight she wouldn't be able to get out of her car!

Multi storey car parks of the same era create the same problem. Thankfully new supermarkets/out of town shopping centres tend to have wider bays.

In any event, it's really irritating when you discover a ding or worse.

The problem these days is car park spaces made for normal sized cars and people choosing to drive huge 4 x 4s which just fit into the spaces. We have a problem because our Merc is two door so needs more space to open wide enough for us to get in and out.

I always try to park as far away from other cars as possible (don't you love those Mums getting their little cherubs out of the car, while the door edge saws against the one parked next to them) astounding how often I come back to find someone parked next to me with masses of space around!

The first car OH bought after he passed his test was a secondhand white Singer Vogue .

Darn thing got bumped and scratched time and time again we got so dint like to leave it parked because of what we may come back to .

One time it had to go in for a repair after a car came around the corner and smashed into the back of OH car as he waited at a zebra crossing as folks crossed the raid

He got the car back on a sat and we went to visit my mum in SE London .car was parked outside mums and an idiot came down the road and tried to squeeze through a too small gap as a car was coming up and he badly scraped our car. Luckily my brother who lived two doors down was out in his front garden and he collared the driver and said that's my BIL ,s car you had better knock and tell him.He won't be pleased cos he has just got the car back from repairs after another idiot went into him.!!!

We live in Kent and fortunately the car was still drivable to get us home

Not long after that he was hit again this time on the motorway. Not his fault but he was so shook up we said that car is jinxed & we better get rid before you are killed in it

It wasn't his driving as he was road savvy having driven a motorbike and sidecar for many years before he changed over to a car

Rude but typical. I bet you could have screamed.

Interesting that your car is black. So is ours and after we had been knocked five times in eighteen months the repair man told us that he does more black cars than anything else. They seem to be invisible!

a man (not paying attention) reversed into DH. Bashed up the bumper.

The bumper was replaced two weeks ago.

This afternoon we went shopping.

Got back to the car and found a big dent on the left of the bumper! Some eejit cut the corner. We don't like taking the park at the end of the row, but that was the only one available.

Ofcourse no note was left.

I hope they have a white car with a great big black streak down the side.

RUDE!!!
