My Wife's Language.........

.......has become much more coarse recently :-(

OH has resorted to spattering her conversations with me with all manner of four letter words.

Even for someone who has worked in many all environments such as the Fish and Commercial ports at Grimsby, such as I have, I must say that I am absolutely shocked.

What's worse is that OH is now finding a litany of longer words to use in conjunction with the shorter ones.

Warning to the RR'r the next sentence will contain graphic examples of such words.

We had one of our 'conversations' recently when the language started; words like 'work' and 'move' didn't so much creep into the conversation but positively leapt.

This was accompanied by such words as 'decorate', 'paint', sugar soap. Honestly I didn't think that OH knew such words :-0

After my initial shock, I realised that I was being asked/ told that the house needed redecorating virtually from top to bottom.

I honestly don't think that the house is too bad, I did the lounge/dining room two years ago. The family room /kitchen was done about fifteen years ago and apart from some grease patches on the walls and ceiling (which look quite decorative in their right) still looks nearly new.

I agree that the upstairs landing could do with a bit of bodging up, particularly where the blood spatter patterns keep showing through (don't ask), but overall the house looks just like it did when we moved in twenty odd years ago.

I suspect that this is going to turn into a battle of wits (in my case half-wit) between OH and myself :-D :-D

You didn't tell her you wanted her to moan more when you made love did you?

Take it from any woman, a family room/kitchen that has not been done up for 15 years is desperately awaiting new kitchen units, new flooring, painting, new blinds or curtains at the windows and plenty of tlc and cash thrown at it.

Jump to it. :-D

Why make love when making war is so exhilarating ;-) :-D :-D

Well Allan, I bet your language had more expletives than hers when you heard that. Words like 'no' and 'not necessary', 'maybe next year'. If she's already looking at colour charts, take it from me, the battle is lost and you and your half wit are 'doomed'!!! :-D :-D A bit of advice......words like 'bodging up' are best forgotten ASAP' :-)

Well I did think that I would 'make an effort' in the hopes that OH would calm down, so last week I went to one of our major hardware stores to buy some things.

I asked OH if she wanted to come with me but she said no as every time she shops there she spends a fortune.

So I bought some Pollyfilla, a little plastic trowel with which to apply it and some sandpaper. I spent $10.00

I got back home and OH took one look at the filler and asked "What's this?" I told her it was for stuffing parrots......well did the fur fly :-D

And don't get me going about colour charts because that led to our next problem :-| :-| :-D :-D

This sounds familiar.

Allan............... are you a "gunner"?

:-D

Allan

Allan Report 28 Jun 2015 04:36

Ah, Lavender, therein lies the problem.

We had already decided on a kitchen revamp, complete with new sink, stove and cooktop. Without all the other things you mentioned, the cheapest quote was for $30,000.00 (or about !5,000 pounds Sterling). Add to that the cost of new floorcovering and blinds and the money soon mounts up.

The house is just too large for us now that the children have established their own lives elsewhere.

We did ask for quote from an Estate Agent recently and when we mentioned what we were proposing to spend, he told us not to bother, just do the cosmetic things like blinds, new lights etc. As he pointed out we could spend heaps and then any purchaser comes along, doesn't like what we've done and rips it all out. Leave someone else to do the redesign :-D

Scozz,

I'm not a gunner, I support Man City ;-) :-D :-D :-D

I did get some colour charts, so after deciding on a light grey colour I was going back to B******s to buy a couple of sample pots

OH decided to go with me: result? $14 for the two sample pots and $45.00 on miscellaneous buckets, window washers etc.

I managed to steer her clear of the Gardening Section :-| :-D :-D :-D

rofl Allan

A new Bunnings is now open near us.......... DH has been there TWICE and I haven't been yet!!!

But he did get me a present........ a bag of potting mix and a bag of orchid mix.

:-(

A new kitchen? It would be cheaper to get a new house. I agree with the estate agent. We replaced the kitchen tap (just the tap, not the sink) recently & it cost nearly $350... plus $120 for the plumber.

The House of Commons authorities are planning to spend loads of taxpayers' money on tarting-up the dilapidated building.

LOL Dermot, I do agree with that, but if my wife went silent I would fear that I had become deaf :-D :-D

Lavender, I'm shocked! That a young lady such as yourself could even know that such words exist, never mind store names :-0 ;-) :-D :-D :-D

LaGooner, when I was younger (much younger) we lived within walking distance of Maine Road, hence my affiliation, even in the Antipodes.

Scozz, for most of our small plumbing needs we use the Tap Doctor, who charges more than most medical specialists :-| :-D :-D :-D
