I have been a continuous member since March, 2006 and paid £17.96 in March to renew my membership.

I have never paid less than £17.96, and a couple of times I have paid between £22.75 and £25. 75.

The more I hear about this, the more ridiculous it is!!!

Chris you paid £8.96 for 6 months? I just paid £6.75 for a year. Surely someone from GR can explain why?

Chrissie2394

Chrissie2394 Report 3 Jul 2015 22:12

I've always paid around £7.96 for a 6 months membership but this was increased to £8.96 in February.

It'll be interesting to see what it is next month.

Island, an explanation from GR with no BS? Impossible!!! It's the only language they speak.

Has anyone sent a link to the thread to Liam/Alex/Alison at GR?

They really need to explain one or ten issues in the open.

and no BS :-|

I had my Auto Renewal on and it says that I purchased 500 credits this year on my renewal date :-S and that I have 50 credits left :-S

I must have had a senior moment :-0 :-0

MotownGal Report 3 Jul 2015 15:33

My subscription is two days after Christmas. I turned off the Auto Renewal, and was advised what the purchase price would be, the same as the year before.

I too was given 50 Credits, but I think I have finished with my tree, and will not use them unless I am helping someone else. Just give me a cheaper price for my subscription please!

Island

Island Report 3 Jul 2015 15:20

I purchased 8950 credits on 18/07/2012 valid until 18/07/2013 !!!

NOT!!!

I have NEVER purchased credits from GR either but this is showing on my account......

27/10/2011 30 27/04/2013 0
28/06/2010 120 01/01/0001 0
05/07/2011 270 01/01/0001 0

WHY would I PAY for credits on GR when I have had a Subscription to Findmypast for several years, including the years GR say I purchased some from them!!!!!

The 30 listed for 27/4/2013 were given FREE after the site had been playing up for a few days!

I have never to my recollection purchased GR credits but according to their records I have...and I obviously went wild in 2011....

I've been a continous Member since 2006 and I got 50 Free Credits when I renewed this year :-S :-S

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 3 Jul 2015 14:15

Speaking of credits, I just checked my credit purchase history. Now I have never purchased nor used credits although I believe I was given free ones at some time.

It tells me that I purchased 161 credits on 21 April 2010 and they expired 01/01/0001 (What's that then? Jan. 1st. Year 1?)

It also says that I purchased 930 credits on 21 April 2011 and they expired on that same day in Year 1.

Then it says that I purchased 30 credits on 27 Oct. 2011 ( I think these were freebies) and that they expired 27 April 2013.

I think GR's book keeping leaves a lot to be desired!

My membership is due for renewal this month and I paid £15.96 last year ..that included a 10% discount.....have been on continuous membership since 2004 ..so work that one out...!!
Will be interesting to see what they are charging me this year....
Response to my query re 50 credits....

Thanks for your email. I'm afraid a Standard subscription does give you 50 free credits the first time you purchase it however after this these must be purchased separately.

Amokavid

Amokavid Report 3 Jul 2015 13:55

I sent an email today regarding the Free Credits!!
GR's Liam has replied informing me that they are only available to NEW subscribers! but as a gesture of goodwill they have allocated 50 free credits to my account!

I have suggested that GR show that the free credits are in place for NEW members only because at it stands at the moment it is rather misleading.

Vera,

i think i have gained an extra 2 weeks, and i did get free credits last year but never used them , wish i could have given them to someone else that needed them..lol

SuffolkVera

SuffolkVera Report 3 Jul 2015 08:30

Mine seems to be the same as Stella's i.e. 75p a month for 12 months. I think it went up to that last year for me. I was paying £7.96 till last year. The 50 free credits I was supposed to get never materialised.

Another thing that puzzles me......according to GR's records I have been a member since January 2005. I have always had annual membership and have had no breaks so you'd think my annual sub would be due in January. Nope, I pay in November. So at some point I either lost 2 months or gained 10!

What a shambles.

I wrote on Mr.'Magoo's thread 10th June:

"E-mail from Genes that my membership will be renewed automatically in a week or so ... for £8.96. For several years it has been ... £7.96. This is a hike of 12 1/2 %. Each year I'll say I won't renew ... but after 12 years I always remain. Happy 'New (Genes) Year'!"

On my thread - 1352851 - of 23rd June I noted Genes said they couldn't take payment from my card as my details had changed.
Naturally, nothing changed at all and other members also noted a similar problem.
Nothing new with this site, is it? Still a shambles.
I am determined this year will definitely be my last, however!

I am very surprised how much these renewal rates vary; it doesn't seem to matter how long one has been a member!

LondonBelle Report 3 Jul 2015 06:29

Joan, I got 50 Free Credits this year :-D. But not last year :-S The chances are I won't use them as I subscribe to Ancestry & FMP....perhaps I should make the effort to use them seeing as they are Free :-D. Would much preferred that the annual sub be reduced by the amount it costs for 50 Credits :-D

Tenerife Sun Report 3 Jul 2015 01:18

I got 40 free credits when I renewed in January. I didn't know I was getting them they just turned up at the top of the page. Maybe to soften the blow that for the last two years they have doubled my membership fee.

But you have been a member longer than me!

It's madness, just greed if you ask me, i run my own website and it is free, members are by invitation only that way non members cannot see or partake in anything.

Members know that it is a safe site and there are never any disagreements on there.
