Can I join the 'Not a happy bunny club' ;-)

I edited my 14:24 Post with the response I got :-|

MotownGal Report 2 Jul 2015 15:08

Well.............I am not impressed. I still fail to see why I am paying £10 more than some others.

Please be assured it is not the money, it is the principle. Am I getting something that others are not? I dont think so.

As for the answer from Genes replicated above, then what exactly does that mean?

I am a bog standard member, and it seems that Platinum is being offered for less.

Not a happy bunny.

As my friend would say.......gobbledegook. :-P :-P
I have been a standard member since 2007 & renewed in April for 7.95 (€11.odd)
As far as I´m aware, for that price, I can´t access records, other than to view them.

LondonBelle Report 2 Jul 2015 14:24

Liam's 4th para....so why did mine go up by over 100% :-S This is certainly not what GR told me :-|

EDIT

This the response I got when I queried the Renewal Rate yet again in Feb 2014!
I couldn't be asked to query it again in 2015

Dear **********

Thanks for getting in touch regarding your renewal rate.

A few of our members are still seeing their old renewal rates. This is because we're slowly moving everyone over to the new renewal rate and as this is a gradual process it will affect members at different times.

I hope this helps and we look forward to seeing you on the site soon.

Kind Regards,

Alex Brett

I have had a reply from GR today regarding my query re the differences in fees for Standard members........

Dear Joan,

Thanks for getting in touch.

Historically we have always allowed members to renew at the price they originally paid so long as it was not a special offer price.

However, over the past few months, we have been working hard to introduce lots of key new features including the Keepsafe, blogs, family history articles, new records and more

As you may be aware we have not raised our prices for several years, but as a business, it is essential that we remain competitive.

Whilst our competitors do not offer a loyalty discount we hope to continue offering this reward to our renewing customers, although we have had to reduce that discount from 20% to 10%.

We hope that you agree that this is still good value for money, and we thank you for your continued support for Genes Reunited.

With kind regards,

Liam Kelly

Margee yes I am in UK.

Island Report 2 Jul 2015 12:20

It's impossible to get a sensible explanation from them - I honestly believe they are deliberately taking the p on this issue.

They seem to charge what they like on a whim but realise they would lose a lot of members if they started charging everyone at the same higher rate. I wouldn't have renewed last month if they had double my sub.

I wonder if Alison will dare to have a crack at explaining...........the unexplainable.

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 2 Jul 2015 11:26

Ann I've always been out of the UK during my membership so I don't think that should make any difference. I also don't think that GR are ever going to be able to explain their reasons they seem to be working in disorganised chaos. :-(

My current Platinum membership cost £9.98.

MargaretM

MargaretM Report 2 Jul 2015 11:01

I wonder if those of us who only pay £6.75 are all out of the country so don't pay VAT? However that doesn't account for the huge discrepancy in what others are paying.

Edit: No, that can't be right, I see AnninGlos is paying the same, I presume she's in UK.

Mine is due in August as well but if i get a massive increase in price i shall not renew as i only use the site occasionally for the chat board these days.

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 2 Jul 2015 10:23

I joined in 2008. It was on a 6 monthly basis and I can't remember the original amount but at some point it went down to £7.96. I have been paying that ever since.

My next renewal is in August and I shall be interested to see what it is. Going by this thread I think it might be £8.96, but could be quite different! :-S :-S :-S :-S

LondonBelle

LondonBelle Report 2 Jul 2015 09:33

I joined in 2006 and paid a sub of £7.95 for 12 months ( give or take a few pence). A couple of years back it more than doubled. When I queried the more than 100% increase I got a standard response stating that they were in the process of aligning all the sub's to one standard sub evidently this was not the case as there are still huge anomalies in individuals sub's. I now pay £17.96 per year :-|

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 2 Jul 2015 09:18

I think it was about 2007 when it went to 6 months membership for new members. If old members renewed on time/had continuous membership they stayed with the 12 months to answer littlelegs. I have always had continuous and never lapsed by paying late.

Wendy I wonder if it is anything to do with not being in the UK? Just a thought.

Amokavid

Amokavid Report 1 Jul 2015 23:48

I have NEVER had the Auto renew ON in all the time i have been a member(2004) & still paid the "reduced" fee (£7-96 ) for several years!
Looks like it's my turn to pay a bit more this time round! I am happy to do so but I reckon that to be fair ALL members should be paying the same,AND for the same length of time!

Joan.

Tenerife Sun

Tenerife Sun Report 1 Jul 2015 23:38

15.95 it was 7.50 when I joined in 2003 and I have always had auto renew membership. I have sent several emails to GR asking why it's not the same fee for everyone and why mine has gone up when others haven't.

I just got the same automated rubbish reply every time.
