Chasing valuable video footage from the 1940's of my great grandmother. Would anybody be able to assist with this?

It's something that's rather specialised. Have you contacted the British Film Archive?

I'm a bit older than a good few of you on these boards and I can remember that sort of thing...there was a bird man as well who used to do a lot of whistling...can't remember his name, but my late OH knew his sound recordist's wife up in Peterhead.

TBH....she was in tune as a lot of some of today's singers are not... :- :-S

Brenda, there was Percy Edwards who did bird impressions and also Ronnie Ronalde who sang and whistled but an even earlier Scottish one that you might be thinking of was Alec Shaw. There is a 1932 video of him on

Like DetEcTive I thought the Gladys Church one was rather charming though I'd had enough after a couple of minutes

:-D

EDITED to turn long url into a tiny one

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 6 Jul 2015 16:16

was it Percy Edwards who did "In a monastery garden"?

Andysmum

Andysmum Report 6 Jul 2015 16:41

No, I think that was Ronnie Ronalde. I used to like listening to him.

It might date us, but I prefer the old stuff, when they sang properly, to a lot of the modern pop, when they shout!!
