My husband's aunts and uncles were in and out of the local workhouse the early years of their lives. Their parents weren't and other than on 1 occasion went individually. Once 2 of the girls were in together. They were discharged after a few days to their parents. One, the eldest son, was sent off to a hospital some distance away. We know he had heart trouble from a child until he died of the problem aged 67.

It is obvious, although the records don't state it, they were in the infirmary. As said earlier, the medical help for the poor.

She may have been in the workhouse infirmary rather than the workhouse itself as this was frequently the only medical help available, if she had a difficult birth.

USD = Urban Sanitary District. An early form of local government.
