As far as I can tell from googling, in the UK all cooking utensils and ceramic glazes must be lead-free, but the same does not apply to Oz. Bearing in mind that it was written in 2010, this link might interest you.

If yours is not an import from the UK, I think I would contact the manufacturer.

this scare is to do with slow cookers, I presume,?

what then about all the different types of oven earthenware we have used, pudding bowls casseroles etc....for ever and a day, don't those utensils fall into the same category??

try google......... some stories say the ceramic bowl has lead in the coating.

:-(

but they are stories from the US...... no idea what the standards are for UK & Oz.

The first slow cooker I bought and loved was in 1978. Think people get a bit paranoid hearing stories...look at what they said about microwaves, but we're still using them! :-S

...but the food is cooked in the ceramic bowl, not the metal 'electrified' bit...

I was talking to a friend about slow cookers, she said she has put hers away until she knows the facts............. what facts?

She had heard that some (particularly the ones with a ceramic bowl) are lead lined. :-(

I googled...... and she's right....... supposed to be a minimum amount, acceptable by the FDA in US.

I also found out that "candy" (US term) also contain an "acceptable" amount of lead!

What's acceptable? How long does it take to get a dangerous buildup of lead in a body system?

This is scary.
