We can all apreciate your excitment and disappointment, but at least you've been able to work out that the messages have never been read. GR sends a message to their registered 'normal' email address saying that you are trying to contact them.

There are a number of reasons why the message hasn't been read

- GR never removes lapsed memberships. Therefore some of the tree owners may have died or become incapacitated. Unless their NOK know that the account exists, AND the log in details, it will remain on the site for ever and a day
- They may have lost interest and consigned any emails from GR to their Spam box so will never realise that you have tried to contact them
- They may have changed their normal email address but failed to update their account on GR.

Some people have mentioned that they have received replies many months after attempting contact. It turns out that the tree owner only looks at GR once or twice a year.
Don't lose heart, but move on.

If they are close relations you wanted to contact them in a normal way, then you could posting a request on Find Living Relatives. Other members can try to find contact details for you to follow up

I have found several family members on Genes, had the massive adrenaline rush whilst sending a message, eagerly waiting for a reply but months later they remain unopened. So disheartening. Do these messages go into spam, other or junk on their email accounts, assuming they're not logging Into Genes? Is there a solution to assure it goes straight into their normal inbox,I've read you can pay a dollar on some USA sites for this but no mention of UK. Thanku xx
