The charity pays a good whack toward having their pockets picked or whatever.

I have made use of this before but have always managed to pay the difference back to them eventually. I feel that, if you can't budget around what they need, then you shouldn't have pets.

They never seem to turn up when I have enough extra money to get them seen to. They probably know this and hope it will let them get to keep the bits they are quite fond of.

Well, if they're adult cats there's every chance they've been done.
Cats can just decide they don't want to be where they are and b*gger off. I've had 3 do it (all spayed, one microchipped).
One moved in down the road, aged 16!!
She preferred the company of a couple of pensioners to my toddler niece.

She was sensible :-D

I have watched them grow as strays.

The tabby one used to be around with it's mother and we have watched the black one grow into it's ears. It looked like it had borrowed somebody elses for a while.

Good luck, hope the trapping goes well and the cats realise on what side their bread is buttered.

The trap is in the hall thing between the kitchen and the wet room where I always feed them.

The food is inside the trap but it is not set, I don't want to trap them until Sunday.

They have each been in and had a look but neither has eaten any.

I think I might leave the back door open tonight so they can come in and eat with no company.
