Sorry to hear that Rollo. It is sad that as we get older we lose our older generation. I too had a lot of aunts and Uncles and cousins older than me. Now I have one cousin left in his 90s, when he goes I will be the oldest on both sides of my family, still having younger cousins than me.

I'm sorry to hear this, Rollo xxx

I have no aunts and uncles left, still have some 1st cousins most of whom are older than me and range in age from about 78 to 90.

it's rather a shock when you realise that there is not one member of the older generation alive to answer the questions you never thought to ask 30 years ago!

It was the death of a cousin a few years ago that prompted all of the remaining cousins to have a get-together every year. We have caravans, tents and trailer tents, and we go to a different site each year and have a wonderful time.

I am sorry to hear of your uncle's death. Any family death is sad. It's disconcerting when you realise that the older generation is now you.

"Life, he himself once said.. is a wake, livit or krikit, and on the bunk of our bread-winning lies the cropse of our seedfather, a phrase which the establisher of the world by law might pretinately write across the chestfront of all manorwombanborn.”
? James Joyce, Finnegans Wake "

Now there is going to be a post mortem 'cos his death was unexpected and nobody knows why he died except a silent witness.

So we wait for high tide on the Liffey and the priest sounding the bells for a departing soul.

"People still put money aside for their funeral, almost before any other consideration. And the importance of the rites and rituals that shape a family funeral continue to retain an extraordinary loyalty". (Western People 30.06.2011).

I have two remaining uncles who live in Queensland.
They like it hot with flies I guess.
Both are planning on flying to the UK for the funeral - that side of my family being from over the water there will be a proper wake so they'll not be wasting their time.

I have one aunt left, she's 77 and lives in Scotland.

I don't think we'll meet again.

My 1st cousins are in Scotland, England & Canada.... and one in Oz.

I have two aunts left - one a few years younger than me and one a few years older - and that's it

I do however have a shedload of first cousins on both maternal and paternal sides

Sorry to hear of your loss, Rollo.

It's sad, isn't it? When I first started my family tree I had parents, grandparents , aunts & uncles. Now I have none of the above but it's a comfort to have children and grandchildren.

Sorry to hear this Rollo.

As we age it shocks us to realise that *we* are now the older generation. We look around at our peer group to see that they are being afflicted with the aches, pains etc we associated with our parents.

I used to have a lots of aunts and uncles.
Now the last one in the UK has gone suddenly I feel numb.

Not fair he hadn't finished yet.
