Justice for self-indulgent Charles!

He did Joy,~~~~ but had he been allowed his choice of a wife in the first place it would have been Camillia without a doubt,,,hes never denied he failed in his marriage,,,,,,had Camillia shut off all to do with him,,,,hes have done far worse with many affairs, I belive.

We,the ordinary folk havnt been in his position, where life is mapped out for us. the queen mum was instramental in Charles marrying Diana,,,,,,a title they must have,,,,,,a virgin or supposed virgin they must be,,,,,able to produce off-spring..and of course Charles must like her, love her doesnt really matter as long as it all fits to all intents and purpose.....Diana fitted perfectly......but he didnt love her or certainly not the way he has always loved Camillia.

About time they did away with the monarchy......

the sad thing is though, Diana loved Charles and he betrayed her totally - she was treated by the Royal family like a brood mare

Long live the Queen, may she reign for many years to come until William is mature enough to become king and Charles abdicates. :-D

I like both Charles & Camilla,& I would have no problem with Camilla becoming our Queen.
In my opinion it's time Prince Charles was on the throne, the Queen should step down! but that is not likely to happen!
I am not a fan of our current Queen & I really did not like the Queen Mother & her interferring (along with Lord Mountbatten) in the love life / choice of wife of Charles was very wrong.
As for Diana being used as a "brood mare" it was just that in my opinion, the higher up Royals didn't give a toss for her, they showed that by taking her Title away after she & Charles were divorced!!
Diana was not the right "choice" she was far tooo young for Charles & they didn't have anything in common, is it any wonder the marraige crumbled regardless of them having 2 children.

Why should the Royals HAVE to marry at all? (next in line or not) marriage is no proof that there will be children from the union! what if Charles & Diana had not produced children! what would have happened then I wonder, hmmm maybe got rid of her in some way, chopped off her head, or banished her to a convent until someone "more" suitable could be found!!

It would be interesting to see how a "modern" Royal family would deal with a childless future King & Queen!

Diana was not innocent in that marriage ................ and who knows whether or not that she was in love with Charles when she married?

I've always thought she was also dragooned into the marriage by HER grandmother Barbara Cartland, who hatched the plot with the Queen Mother. They thought they had the ideal woman ........... young, a virgin, pliant, shy, probably wouldn't argue with her life to come.

I think Diana was a starry-eyed very young woman, flattered by the attention of the heir to the throne, who never really looked at what the future was going to be.

No-one counselled her before or after the marriage, just as they failed Sarah Ferguson later.

From what I have read, it seems that Charles and Camilla were very much in love, but he then took off for a stint on board ship without telling her anything, so she married someone else.

Who blames her for that?

Not me ........... I'd have done the same if a boyfriend who I thought was going to propose went off for 18 months without saying something like "when I return .......".

Did anyone tell him to do that?? Who the heck knows!!

Go back in history, and what happened to Charles and Diana was only what happened to many a royal, or even the local lord of the county .............. marry, get an heir and a spare, then you can go off and do your own thing. I remember that was part of our history lessons at school ............. you could be almost sure of the parents of the first 2 sons but very uncertain of any later children!

The trouble was that Diana turned out not to be the pliant wife who accepted and did her own thing ............ she did her own thing, took lovers, AND spouted publicly about what Charles was doing.

He only went with one other woman, so far as any of us knows, and that was seemingly his one love. How many lovers did Diana have?

As you may guess, I don't have much time for Diana ................ yes, she did some great things, eg the HIV, children and bombs ............... but she was also a pretty shallow woman who married the wrong man.

Barbara Cartland was not Diana's grandmother - she was the mother of Raine who married Diana's father after his divorce from Diana's mother

magpie

magpie Report 3 Aug 2015 21:12

Barbara Cartland was Diana's step grandmother. Her grandmother was Lady Fermoy, a great friend of the late Queen Mother, and it was these two ladies who conjoured up this marriage.

AnnCardiff

AnnCardiff Report 3 Aug 2015 21:14

Step-grandmother in fact

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 3 Aug 2015 21:24

oh .......

sorry for getting that wrong.

The wrong name does not however affect my basic premises

Diana was set up by her grandmother

Diana was not counselled

Diana probably was not in love with Charles, just starry eyed at the idea of marrying "Prince Charming"

Diana was not innocent

Diana had a number of lovers

I think Camilla is a far better march for Charles and would be a far better Queen Consort, if / when that day ever comes.

I agree with you SC, Camilla is a much better bet than Diana. They make a good team, and should do really well when the time comes.
