In the cases I dealt with money did not
come into it, they wanted answers to why.

Sharron

Sharron Report 5 Aug 2015 19:52

There is a family in a nearby village who have fostered numerous children and have even adopted one of them. Any of the fostered children can go back to them at any time for help or support.

The daughter of one of these children was playing with a girl who had been molested and thought it might not be a bad idea to say that the foster father (foster grandfather in her case) had done the same to her, as had her natural grandmother's husband.

The accusation was reported in the local newspaper. The total acquittal of both men, however, didn't warrant a word.

So, as far as the public are concerned, both men are paedophiles.

A percentage of people seem to be under the misconception that when an allegation is made, the accused is automatically guilty and the accuser is telling the truth.

Just because an allegation is made does NOT mean that it is true - indeed the veracity of such allegations should be under close scrutiny

The compensation-rich society in which we now live has exacerbated the fast buck idea.

Does anybody remember Peter Adamson?

It's a life sentence of guilt and anger for
those that have been abused knowing their
abuser is dead, wishing they had spoken up
earlier when they were alive so they could
confront them and get justice for what they went through.

AnnCardiff - how long did the convicted abuser get as a prison sentence?

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 5 Aug 2015 19:09

The Telegraph assumed she was the person referred to! I place no great credence on assumptions or people's perception of an alleged abuser.

Each abuser has their own way of deceiving others into believing they are paragons of virtue. Only they and their victims know the truth, together with the enablers, if appropriate to the individual.

thank you Linda - I don't think he'll ever fully get over it but he can now live with it and we can now understand his erratic behaviour through his teenage years and beyond - sadly his Dad is no longer here to know the outcome

Sadly lie detectors lie. That's why they aren't allowed in court.

Also people lie.

Dermot

Dermot Report 5 Aug 2015 17:40

'The truth is one thing for which there are no known substitutes'.

Jeremy Kyle's lie-detector might have to be employed to ferret out the bone of various accusations.

A justice system running wild ?

I was a member of the RLYC during the 1970s though I did not move in the exalted circles of the "Morning Cloud" crew owning a Polish built Folkboat.
There was plenty of criticism of Ted Heath who had a high opinion of himself and could be rude and churlish even to his best buddies. Over several years I never heard the slightest innuendo of any improper conduct.

After he moved to Salisbury I had relatives living there and one working for the diocese. Again none ever voiced any kind of suggestion of improper behaviour although his politics were not much liked.

The Salisbury brothel keeper has now forcefully denied any involvement with Heath. That leaves the memory of a policeman after many years.

Linda Report 5 Aug 2015 17:36

Its terrible if someone is wrongly accused and I am sure there are people are accusing people for their five minutes of fame so to speck cos all of us that lived through the 60s knew what it was like then. I started work in the mid 60s in a office and there was not a day went past when man sexest remark pinched your bum has you went pass and you dare not say anything. But things have changed thank god.

If Ted Heath is found to have done anything wrong I hope I hope its proved and because these people alive have got know the police will catch up with.

Ann I am glad that your son has such a lovely wife and he was able to talk to her and there was a good result. I hope your son can have happy life

Sharron

Sharron Report 5 Aug 2015 17:28

A friend of ours had a father who was a paedophile. He was brought to trial in the eighties and didn't even do time.

He just went on with life as he always had, as if that was the end of it, not even allowing my friend and his mother to go to court and hear the details.

The unpleasant old pervert lived a peaceful life whereas my friend lived with the contempt of his workmates on a daily basis and his mother still had to go about her life in the village, carrying her shame at something she had no part in with her.

They are truly selfish thoughtless people with more victims than just the children they molest.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 5 Aug 2015 17:18

No as the victims wish.

How wonderful to be able to disassociate from other peoples' suffering.

supercrutch Report 5 Aug 2015 17:05

Of course they have to be proved, that's why there are investigations, better late than never. So it isn't a waste of money is it?

magpie

magpie Report 5 Aug 2015 17:02

All I'm saying is think Cliff Richards, Michael Le Vell, William Roache, it can happen. These accusations have to be proved.

supercrutch

supercrutch Report 5 Aug 2015 15:50

Thank you to all on this thread who support the current investigations, most of you will never meet or talk to a victim but I can assure you that each and every person that voices concern really does make a difference.

it took my son over thirty years to open up about the abuse he had suffered - he only managed to do so with the support of his lovely wife - the abuser was thrown out by his family and he lost his job with the army - result!!!
