there are problems with the Edge browser, firefox, chrome are ok

IE is still around though in Windows 10, you can access it through the "Open with Internet Explorer" option in Edge and anything not happy with Edge will be assuaged.

Ancestry SAYS it doesn't run (yet) on Microsoft Edge - the new browser that comes with Windows 10. However, I could still log in and search.

However, still prefer to use Chrome as my browser and Ancestry is still fine with that.

Windows 10 is the operating system, not the browser. Upgrading to Windows 10 doesn't stop you using Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or whatever other browser you wish.

Have to say that Edge has some great features and the Windows 10 upgrade was a doddle.

I used Ancestry via the Edge browser and FTM2014 for several days and apart from the Ancestry warning that it doesn't yet work for Edge, I have only had one problem.

That problem was that my main tree wasn't in the list of trees on FTM although Ancestry said it was linked with a tree on FTM. I managed to sort that out and have synched several times since with no problem (using Ancestry via Firefox).

The web seems to indicate that backup and importing a gedcom do not work for FTM2014 but I haven't tried that.

As of yesterday Mel I hadn't read that older versions aren't compatible with Windows 10. All I do know is versions 11 and 12 do work and 14 doesn't.

Good luck.

Thanks for your comments and sorry I was'nt back sooner as I got called away jsut after posting.

I had my FTM program years ago so I don't know whether it will work for me. I hav'nt been on it lately.

I am running FTM14 on an older laptop but to be honest I don't really like it. Upgrades don't necessarily mean better programmes :-(

Makes me glad I've got a stand-alone FH programme.

It's being talked about all over the www. Ancestry are offering refunds for FTM2014 if bought recently through them. The patch doesn't work in any way, shape or form!

We tested FTM 11 and 12 and both work on Windows 10.

Basically FTM14 disc is a useless coaster at the moment.

Sounds as if you aren't alone Sue

I installed Windows 10 from Windows 8.1 and find that Family Tree Maker no longer will load my Family Tree, it just crashes. I've uninstalled the programme to re-install it and now find I can't get past the compulsory update because it reports not being able to open file RTB04590, which doesn't seem to exist. Any suggestions?

Ancestry asked the poster to contact them off-board. " We would just like to check whether your tree's are showing as still linked with Family Tree Maker."

supercrutch Report 6 Aug 2015 19:59

Ancestry does, Family Tree Maker 2014 doesn't.

They've got a facebook page - you could ask on there. There must be some people who have up graded and can report back

I'm not sure Mel

You could always do a system restore if it does not

Does anyone know whether Ancestry works on windows 10 yet please? Only I don;'t want to upgrade if it is going to give me problems.

Thanks Mel
