She might not need to learn Dutch - but she will surely pick up a fair amount.

Early 70's I was sent over to the company's subsidiary in Amsterdam. The ONLY two people in the place who did not speak a jot of English were the two ladies who ran the 'kantine'.
To learn was to eat.
1st phrase "Ik wil brood met kass" (cheese sarnie please...) w pronounced as v, oo pronounced more like o. So "vil brod"
2nd phrase "Ik wil brood met ham"
And so on.
Still a favourite is ertwensoep - a sort of thick pea & ham soup. And "olly bolls" - oliebollen - doughnuts to die for....

Uzzi, what fantastic GCSE results. And well done for helping her to choose a future career, I wish her lots of luck with her A level studies and results. But most of all I hope she enjoys her 6th form college years and gets her dream of her chosen Uni. I assume that is the best one for the subject but does it mean she will need to learn Dutch or is it an English speaking college? I have not heard anyone choosing that one before.

A my niece who we have encouraged for the last 2 years has her GCSE results ...8 A* -As and 1 B. She says she should have done better, I say I am so proud of you.
She has college for the next 2 years but picked her Uni out over a year ago. She wants to go to Holland and do marine biology.

Why am I proud well it´s that "what do I do with a 14yr old" 2 yrs ago, oh I will send her scuba diving, that put her on the path to her future. I could say that putting her through her dives and her advanced divers has cost me in fact I will say that but her love of it, her enjoyment and knowing it´s going towards her future the cost was not that much.

So well done A for the hard work YOU have done to get this far. xx <3
