Yeah, I always thought I was safe from being thrown out because I was born here, So where would your daughter and I go? :-S

SylviaInCanada Report 1 Sep 2015 01:08

RMS ...............

we've got friends going through that same process, although they were all adults when they came up here.

One in particular came up here to work in 1967, never earned anything in the US after that, and never thought he had to pay tax down there on the money he earned up here.

Now they're chasing him for thousands and thousands of dollars.

OH and I now come under that new Bill (??C51)................ we chose to become Canadian citizens but were born elsewhere, and could be removed from the country if Harper's assurances about it only being used for terrorism are ignored by some future government.

Our Canadian-born daughter also could be in danger if she misbehaves

Do you realize how tough it is to get away from the USA.

My niece was born in the States but came back to Canada when she was less then a year ago. Then two years ago they said she hasn't been paying her US income tax for the last 25 years. Ummmm how much income tax does a I year ago have?????
Anyway she has been jumping though hoops getting her US citizenship erased, so after thousand of dollars, headaches and people saying she crazy not to what to belong 'to the greatest country in the world', She just has to wait for the IRS to say yes she owes them no money. But she is on their "Wall of shame" :-( :-P
But she can live with that. :-D

Thank god I was born next 'to the greatest country in the world' ;-)

:-D

and just what would they do about Point Roberts in BC???

It's US territory, but the only access is either by boat or small plane, or through Canada.

The kids go to school in the US ............ they have to bused up into BC , then turn east and then south to re-enter the US through the Peace Arch border crossing.

Where I live they'd better build it on the American bank so that I can continue to sit on the deck of my favourite restaurant and gaze out to the maginificent St. Lawrence.

under or over the rivers??

who gets the river if it has to be built on one bank rather than the other

what about those towns all officially US towns where the border runs through the centre of town??

There is one town where the border runs through someone's house ..... basically he is awake in one country and sleeps in the other

Or there is a theatre or community centre in another where the stage is in one country and the audience sits in the other.

The Americans don't realize that we Canadians are expert in tunneling under walls.

Contrary to what was portrayed in their movie :The Great Escape" there were no Americans involved. Those brave men were Brits and Canadians. No Steve McQueen with a motorcycle!

Let them build their wall. Mind you it's going to take a little while to build a five and a half thousand mile wall!

I agree, that's a GREAT song :-D

and it's the good old Republicans who want to wall in the US .......... one to the south and one to the north.

Next thing is they'll have to work out how to wall off the Pacific and the Atlantic.

............... they're just ignoramuses pandering to the even more ignorant.

I don't normally argue with anybody but I can't stand Hallelujah by anybody :-D

the Guardian link had a link to an article about a good song though, that I think SylviaInCanada will like since she is a scientist

According to my German friend, there is a joke doing the rounds in her homeland. Why do the Chinese always look happy? Because they still have their wall.

RockyMountainShy

RockyMountainShy Report 30 Aug 2015 21:02

:-( :-P Lets just hope they don't make us pay for it too.

I would think it would be really hard to build on a river or the Great Lakes.

If people want KD Lang they can have her........ free
