I think that we are closer to a nuclear holocaust than we have ever been. But it won't be one of the major powers that causes it. If ISIL get their hands on the wherewithal they won't hesitate to use it. India and Pakistan, there is another flashpoint. Iran, if they do decide to bomb Israel there will be retaliation. No wonder I drink!

Whilst theres life theres hope - so tis said. But not much hope these days. However, I think back to the 1960s - cold war era and just how close the world came to atomic warfare and I think well we got over that so p'haps we'll get over this lot.

I'm an optimist, my cup overflows most of the time :-D

I have hope for the future, I make sure I just don't moan about something,I'm not happy with, if it bothers me that much I try to do something about it, and don't give up. I have four Grandchildren, who I have high hopes for, they have high hopes for themselves to, not just academically, but to make a difference to others. I'm happy with that, as are their parents.

I'd hate to feel all doom and gloom, I have lots to be thankful for, and make the most of each day. When my time is up, I'm sure I'll be wanting to stay longer :-D

I have lots of hope for the future :-D

I'm glad I'm on my way out and not coming in :-D

I would dearly have loved to have grandchildren, but I don't have any so for that I am glad as I would fear for their future

In the long run we're doomed, and maybe in the short term too through our own hands.

The dying sun will swallow the Earth and unless we can identify another habitable planet and invent a way of travelling millions of light years that's the end of the human race.

So make the most of today!

Although naturally a pessimist, I do have hope for the future.

Each generation has faced challenges and wars but managed to recover and move on.
Each time, society changes and eventually becomes unrecognisable to those who had gone before. If we were to return in say 75 years time, life would still go on. There would still be love, joy and sadness.

The destruction of the temple in Palmyra is incredibly sad and misguided (who worships the ancient gods anyway?) but on the other hand, why do we revere ancient sites rather celebrate the present?

‘Random acts of kindness’ will carry humanity into the future....I hope!

I will always have hope for the future.

I agree with those who say something has gone wrong and it has become a very materialistic world but there are still enough people around who aren't selfish and who care about others.

The Thatcher years were soul destroying for many and we have yet to recover here in the UK but I work with teenagers and when I'm with them I'm reminded that not everyone is selfish. Their optimism as they stand at the edge of adulthood is a constant reminder to me that the world is full of lovely people, they just aren't the ones in power.

I read/watch the news. I see man's inhumanity to man and sometimes I'm in tears at the suffering around the world. And then something like this comes to my attention and I know I should never give up hope.

You can't always change the world but you can make a huge difference to one person.

And no matter how tiring it can be it's important to speak up for what is right and humane and challenge those without charity in their hearts.

I feel sad for the future of the world and any grandchildren I may have because I can't imagine there will ever be peace and contentment. People just want more and more things instead of sharing more with others and cutting back on unnecessary shopping and spending.

I know there are many, many wonderful people around, I have met lots through the boards, and I live in hope that parents will try to raise their children to be kinder, more caring and less want, want, want.

That is what I worry for most Stella - my children and grandchildren.

try not to think about it Rose, there is nothing we can do to change things and so maybe we should be thankful that at least we have homes. food and relative safety.

My children, grandchildren and great grandchildren are growing up thinking this is the norm, they have never known the lives we were born into.

It may be less depressing not to watch the news but that doesn't stop the depressing news carrying on.

To be honest I don't have much hope for the future. It bothers me that my one and only grandson has to grow up in this time.

I often think about a book on "Old Mother Shipton" where she made a prophesy that "man would outdo his own ingenuity" and I think she was right.

do you have hope for the future?

Someone suggested recently that it was better ie less depressing not to watch the news ( read the papers, look at facebook) but is that too much like a 'cop out' hiding your head in the sand?
Speaking of which it seems that the ancient city of Palmyra has been destroyed, do you think it is inevitable that history, both natural and man-made is ultimately doomed to destruction by mankind? followed probably by mankind itself...

( It's being such an optimist that keeps me going lolol)
