Our main account is with a Building Society - 2 windows and a freestanding computer. Its such a small shop that it would be easy to listen in....if we were nosey enough. You can request a private interview upstairs.

There are still an awfully large number of people who aren't computer literate, or have lost the capacity to use a computer. Just because we can use one now, it doesn't follow that we'll remember when we've aged. The same applies to in-bank touch screens.

One of our large banks "updated" their front office leaving just 2 open desks for the cashiers and no privacy what so ever. I changed to another bank.

Last year the branch of my bank in the town centre introduced a large computerised screen that you had to press the options on, 'personal account', 'business', 'appointment' etc it then issued a ticket and you sat waiting for your number to be called ... there were fewer cashiers but someone standing by the screen to help use it. The wait time was if anything longer than the old queue, because sometimes people missed hearing their number called out and then there was confused running about trying to find who it was ( rather like drawing a raffle but without a prize lol)

Today I went in and the screen has gone, the majority of the seats have gone and the old queue system has been reintroduced unless you are seeing an advisor . I noticed someone bringing in a large bag of coinage ( a business I assume) was turned away as they no longer accept it as they don't have an automatic coin counter...

Are you happy with the automation of the banks generally? particularly when it is something you can't do online.
