ever ask themselves why people are leaving this site?

It is not because they can't find what they are looking for in their research. It is purely because of the obscure reporting system whereby one person can interfere with the enjoyment and information gained by debates. You have just deleted a very long well thought out and informative thread on a situation which is read about in the newspapers and reported on TV. There was nothing wrong said on the thread and certainly nothing that we could see wrong with the opening post. If you delete the opening post these people who RR posts know that it will delete the whole thread. It is so unnecessary and a complete waste of our time. What a shambles this is.

Lazy, sloppy moderating.

a shambles indeed :-(

This one of the few occasions when GR DOES need to let us know why they have deleted such a thread.

My thoughts exactly when I saw it had been RRd

Ann,

Are you aware that someone has started a similar Thread to this one and called it 'Has Ann's Thread Been Removed?'

I have a feeling that your Thread was removed because people became irate and judgmental about others. I have learned that one should always give a person an 'out' and I attempted to do that. Others didn't.

Do you think you'll learn the reason for the disappearance of your Thread?

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 14:25

JoyLouise, you are getting me mixed up with AnnCardiff. It was not my thread, and this thread is not actually the same as the other thread and yes I am aware I have posted on it.

No-one is forced to join in a thread. If you don't like a reply, you can always say ' that's your opinion, mine is different and I don't intend to discuss it anymore'.
No- one will chase you down the street demanding an argument. Just don't go on that thread again.
If a person insists on going back to comment, (bearing in mind we're talking about adults), they should expect people to disagree, and debate. Some people are more acerbic than others - that's life.

Sorry Ann. You're right, I got the Ann's mixed up.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 14:44

I agree that GR should state a reason

I will start by saying that I did not request review of the thread or of a single post in it

but I would actually hope that GR chose not to host the prejudice that was on display in that thread and found it impossible to deal with it otherwise than by deleting the thread

an explanation is definitely needed, particularly if GR chose to enforce its rules, so that it is clear to all that the rules are not there for decoration

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 14:48

But the opening post Junieclooney was RRd before things got a bit heated surely? And do you actually think they read through a thread before deleting it? I don't, I think they delete as soon as somebody reports it.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 14:53

ah yes that could be AnninGlos, I was not around the whole time :-)

I speak not to the motives of the RRer but maybe to the reasons of GR ...

but yes, I doubt the diligence of the thread deleter too ... and however 'Kill them all and let God sort them out' is not a proper way to operate a discussion forum :-)

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 8 Sep 2015 14:55

I agree, Ann, although I would not be surprised if someone at Genes had been following the Thread. However, like you, I think someone has reported it as comments had begun to contravene In the following areas from more than one contributor.

Racially
Offensive
Derogatory
Malicious

magpie

magpie Report 8 Sep 2015 14:58

FGS, if a post is offensive, then by all means delete it and inform the poster as to why, don't delete the whole conversation without any explanation! If someone doesn't like what is being said, then don't join in, just leave it! We're not children who need protection against the horrible bully, I'm sure we are all perfectly capable of defending ourselves one way or another without hanging onto nurses apron strings!

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 15:02

magpie, my suggestion is that GR may have felt that the content of a number of the posts reflected badly on the company that owns this website ... a possibility if not a probability ...

we are all just paying users of it, and we are not the only ones in the world who have access to what is posted here

The internet is forever :-)

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 8 Sep 2015 15:19

If the RRer was GR its self
The threads and posts would be removed straight away
would they not
Not left pending sometimes for days

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 15:23

Actually Joy, what was astounding with this thread was the speed at which the delete was activated, compared to other times when it has been left several days (and not just at weekend either.)

I do think that, in all fairness an explanation should be offered. And not the usual 'contravening T& Cs'

magpie

magpie Report 8 Sep 2015 15:27

So what we're saying here is that it is Genes itself who is the phantom RRer! If this is the case, then quite frankly they should come clean, and state their concerns. To skulk in the shadows to the point of people believing the culprit to be a fellow poster is both sneaky and cowardly! State what it is that bothers you, and then we can hopefully rectify it.
