I hate to contradict you, but new members were not always welcomed in what you think of as the good old days

The first time I posted on General Chat, I was accused of being someone else with a similar name who had been "nasty", and basically driven away.

It took me another 3 years to venture on this Board again ............ and this time I was accused of being another member posting under an alias, simply because I was one of several members who admitted not living in the UK

It took me another 2 or 3 years before I felt at all comfortable posting on this Board ........

........ and even now, there is a feeling of only being tolerated by many of the "old" members.

but Joonie ....................

I'm a relative newcomer to General Chat.

I used to spend almost all my time on Find Ancestors and Genealogy Chat :-)

I think I only started posting regularly, ie almost every day, in this section about 6 or 7 years ago, certainly not much before 2007/8

Liz knew what I was saying :-)

although I'm not sure I was 'calling old Sylvia' ... here Sylvia, heeere old Sylvia, nice Sylvia ...

no, I just have missing cat on the brain.

Cat disappeared 4 days ago, could not possibly have got out of house, must have gone somewhere inside the house to die of something (was not known to be ill, but in hindsight may have been having kidney trouble), somewhere in the three rooms that are still full of unpacked boxes, look as we might we can't find her ... pretty distressing, waiting for a dead cat to make itself known in the way that is likely to happen ...

you would think the other cats might notice, but they are devil may care about the whole thing.

edit ... because I'm having to be off and I don't want to leave anyone with bad thoughts about sick and dying cats ...

I just went to the back sunroom where we have the freezer to get something out ........ and when I opened the door, a bushy-tailed furry blur went running for the stairs to the cellar.

We had searched the cellar thoroughly ... damp and leaky with stuff stored ... and no sign, and no secret passage to the outside that I know of ... but there she was, looking up at me but not coming up ... this is the cat who lives on my lap and under my blankies. I tossed some treats down onto the stairs but of course the fat other cat gobbled them. There's a cat flap in the sunroom door (where the cat litter is) so she can get in and out to the food so somehow for some reason that must be what she's been doing ... she was born feral and has reverted?!

when I come back in a few hours we will be finding her whether she likes it or not ... and then she will be off to the vet for the fixing she's been procrastinating about ... just in case she does have a secret passageway ...

big PHEW. I have had enough cats die this decade ...

There will always be haters..
TBH I don't give a monkeys (private parts) about the people who suddenly popped up 2 years after I joined who decided I was .wow .. let me think. 2 or 3 different people on here..
it became quite funny.. especially when I had a full conversation with 2 or 3 people who it was claimed were all me
Still here .. same name
Don't worry.. you are not tolerated..
you are welcome .. most people on here just want to talk..
I am chuffed to bits that I can talk to people from all over the world on here

I'm amazed at how people can claim to be someone else.

What's missing in them?

Also, don't like cliques either. I like people so I'm happy to speak/'speak' with anyone.

I'd ignore the nasties.

JoyLouise ...........

I don't know that anyone has claimed to be some one else ................

I was observing that I was twice accused of BEING someone else ............

the first time was because of my name ...... and the accusations were wicked. They made me decide NEVER EVER to post on General Chat again.

About 2 years later, I decided to give it another try .............. and was accused of being someone else because we both lived outside the UK and posted at similar times of the day. Then followed another attempt to drive me away because I "must be xxxxxxx", who was much disliked by one particular member.

I must have grown a thicker skin, and become more feisty with old age, 'cos I stood up to that person

I'm sorry to say that I have since witnessed some members on here attempting to drive away others that they dislike and/or disapprove of ...... occasionally successfully, sometimes unsuccessfully, thank heavens.
