I don't think GR work over the weekend or on a Monday.

Lets hope these migrants will be welcomed on the other sites! :-D

Maybe there is a German one they can join! ;-)

SylviaInCanada Report 8 Sep 2015 17:40

My experience over the last few weeks during which I have had several posts RR'd ...... usually on a Friday, for some reason o.O ....... is that GR does not always remove such a post, BUT they now never notify you that a post has been removed and thus you do not know why it was removed.

My personal theory is that it is someone who RR's a post giving a reason such as "offensive to me" or "derogatory to xxxxx", and that GR does not read said post but just removes it.

It is useless to ask them to re-institute the thread ............... the excuse in the past has always been that a thread once removed cannot be found again, and that applied even when Phil was around.

Of course, we have no idea of who might have done the reporting as non-paying members can read and report, and it has also been suggested that non-members can also report ................ remembering that much of what is posted on GR soon appears on Google.

Who knows and frankly now, who cares?!

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 16:17

I really don't understand, who is suggesting that GR 'reported' the thread? :-S

I'll try again

the RRer may have had any number of motives, sincere or otherwise

once GR looks at a thread, it could decide to delete it for entirely its own reasons regardless of what the RR said

PS in that case AnnCardiff wouldn't be the 'offender' :-)

not that they give reasons to the offender anyway I gather

and I undoubtedly infer too much about GR's diligence when it comes to evaluating what is in a thread ...

Just stick to trivia, then you'll be fine!

Kense

Kense Report 8 Sep 2015 15:56

I would think that if GR didn't like a thread they would just remove it . No need for them to report it first.

As it is there seems to be so little available resources in GR, that if a report is controversial, then they do remove it but don't have the effort to explain why.

This is an open forum that can be seen by anyone. Why assume any reporting is being done by posters here?

I think what we really need is Estelle back running the show
I always found her fair informative and firm when needed
and she never put me on Holiday
without good reason :-D :-D

OH and Phil back to mind
I did get a hot match two days ago
and my search worked during the night
So something is moving in the right direction :-D :-D :-D

magpie Report 8 Sep 2015 15:48

It's what it sounded like joonie, sorry to misunderstand you, but I've suspected thats been the case for ages. I have no proof of course, but their silence is deafening which years ago in this sort of debacle it wasn't, the 'offender' was always informed and given the opportunity to explain and defend themselves, and whatever the incident, it was always gone into properly and hopefully resolved satisfactorily. Those days now seem a distant memory and sadly we're the worse for it.

JoyBoroAngel Report 8 Sep 2015 15:37

Ann The speed surprised me to :-D :-D

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 15:35

is someone interpreting what I said as saying that GR was the RRer? :-)

I didn't ... I'm saying that regardless of what the RRer's motives were, GR may have felt content in the thread was inappropriate for the site.

And yes an explanation should be given.

magpie

magpie Report 8 Sep 2015 15:27

So what we're saying here is that it is Genes itself who is the phantom RRer! If this is the case, then quite frankly they should come clean, and state their concerns. To skulk in the shadows to the point of people believing the culprit to be a fellow poster is both sneaky and cowardly! State what it is that bothers you, and then we can hopefully rectify it.

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 15:23

Actually Joy, what was astounding with this thread was the speed at which the delete was activated, compared to other times when it has been left several days (and not just at weekend either.)

I do think that, in all fairness an explanation should be offered. And not the usual 'contravening T& Cs'

JoyBoroAngel

JoyBoroAngel Report 8 Sep 2015 15:19

If the RRer was GR its self
The threads and posts would be removed straight away
would they not
Not left pending sometimes for days

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 15:02

magpie, my suggestion is that GR may have felt that the content of a number of the posts reflected badly on the company that owns this website ... a possibility if not a probability ...

we are all just paying users of it, and we are not the only ones in the world who have access to what is posted here

The internet is forever :-)

magpie

magpie Report 8 Sep 2015 14:58

FGS, if a post is offensive, then by all means delete it and inform the poster as to why, don't delete the whole conversation without any explanation! If someone doesn't like what is being said, then don't join in, just leave it! We're not children who need protection against the horrible bully, I'm sure we are all perfectly capable of defending ourselves one way or another without hanging onto nurses apron strings!

JoyLouise

JoyLouise Report 8 Sep 2015 14:55

I agree, Ann, although I would not be surprised if someone at Genes had been following the Thread. However, like you, I think someone has reported it as comments had begun to contravene In the following areas from more than one contributor.

Racially
Offensive
Derogatory
Malicious

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 14:53

ah yes that could be AnninGlos, I was not around the whole time :-)

I speak not to the motives of the RRer but maybe to the reasons of GR ...

but yes, I doubt the diligence of the thread deleter too ... and however 'Kill them all and let God sort them out' is not a proper way to operate a discussion forum :-)

AnninGlos

AnninGlos Report 8 Sep 2015 14:48

But the opening post Junieclooney was RRd before things got a bit heated surely? And do you actually think they read through a thread before deleting it? I don't, I think they delete as soon as somebody reports it.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 8 Sep 2015 14:44

I agree that GR should state a reason

I will start by saying that I did not request review of the thread or of a single post in it

but I would actually hope that GR chose not to host the prejudice that was on display in that thread and found it impossible to deal with it otherwise than by deleting the thread

an explanation is definitely needed, particularly if GR chose to enforce its rules, so that it is clear to all that the rules are not there for decoration
