Even worse there was three and a half hours of the great north run plus another hour of so called 'highlights' and to top that another three hours of a golf tournament that no one is in the slightly interested in.

Ah well, we can but look forward to the international haggis, black pudding and sausage throwing spectacular from Bucharest next week, which I gather has been given two and a half hours prime time by the beeb.

tall dude wandered off upstairs today leaving the football on and me with the piercing shrilling of the whistle every 20 seconds

Whatever happened to the "Close Season".
I seem to recall that footie ran from September to March and Tennis etc. from April to August.
Now footie seems to run late August to May and then there's World Cup, Champion's League, and all sorts of other internationals during the summer plus all the hype over obscene transfer fees etc..
Not to mention the fact that most of the players, even in the "England" team and the Managers seem to be drawn from rejects to the United Nations council.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 14 Sep 2015 10:46

exactly Brian

I keep thinking I have a few months of respite from the whistle, and it turns out to be about 3 weeks

I'm not taking your point on your last comment ... or perhaps just preferring not to

are all commercial sports these days not internationalised?

Russian and Finnish ice hockey players are everywhere! and baseball teams in the USA are full of Latin Americans ...

I guess the consensus is that there's too much footy/soccer.

In our house it's cricket and even cricket scores on text.

My OH has even indoctrinated younger grandson so in his house it's a mixture of footy and cricket.

Then, sometimes, there is the Open Walking Round a Field in a Group and Stopping for a Bit.

Not heard of that Sharron.

Sounds fascinating - not!

JoyLouise

Oh - OH is not a golfer and nor am I.

Son is and brother are but I had not twigged at all I'm afraid.

Good depiction.

And then there are those drivers that go round and round in circles because they can't find the Off Ramp. :-D

Gawd, my head's spinning - that lot too although they don't get much telly time.

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 14 Sep 2015 17:45

but Sharron at least while they wander about and putter around, everyone speaks in hushed tones

... and no one blows whistles

then there is tennis, the tall dude's other inexplicable fixation

thock ... thock ... thock ... thock thock ... and it's over

... and then it starts again

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 14 Sep 2015 18:22

........

you've forgotten the screaming that accompanies each "thock"

JoonieCloonie

JoonieCloonie Report 14 Sep 2015 19:04

but I have read about it :-)

SylviaInCanada

SylviaInCanada Report 14 Sep 2015 20:04

it's awful!

......... and it is almost always the women who do it.

I do understand that they are going to have to tone it down after this season :-D

You don't see it very often, illustrating the concept that there is always something to be grateful for, but there is that cycling thing where they go round very , very slowly and then have a burst of speed at the very end.

Why don't they just do the quick bit and get it over with?
