My mates sister was a fish filleter in the docks in Sunderland. I used to stay with him sometimes when we were both on leave, and I think he had designs on me as a B-I-L. Unfortunately, however much she scrubbed, she couldn't shake off the smell of fish. And, how can I put this? she also wasn't the prettiest girl in town. It turned out that she preferred other girls anyway.

Thank you all for your kind words. It is a relief especially for my Daughter who has been at her wits end sometimes. Thank goodness for the Bank of Mum and Dad on occasions.

Well done to him. Such a long time to be out of work, it will seem strange, I hope he enjoys the job.

Eight years!

It must be like winning the lottery.

The jobby are after me again to go after jobs when I have seven weeks to my pension.

What is the point of it when there are people with families who need to get established again?

Good news indeed, hope the family can enjoy a few treats now

Well done to your daughter for coping well, the new routine will seem strange, no doubt, till they get used to your s.i.l. working hours.

for our family at least, especially my eldest daughter. After 8 years of being unemployed, my SIL has got a job - fishmonger in a supermarket. This was always his trade before becoming unemployed so we are well pleased.
Daughter has kept family of four together all this time but it has been a struggle.
