A relative of mine was a journalist in Northern Ireland...... until he was given the message to quietly leave the country......... ....

Nobody in the family knows where he is. Obviously he's changed his name.

As an expat Brit I'm shocked and ashamed that someone, a person who has openly praised the IRA, a terrorist group responsible for the murder of innocent men, women and children, has been elected to lead a British Political party.

I suspect there go Labour's chances of winning the next election unless the Labour party ditch him.

Sums, can any body in Labour do sums e.g. the new shadow chancellor who is supposed to be good at sums, surely.

Q1. After the new trade union statue becomes law ( the one that is before the house, now ) union members will have to opt-in to the political subscription which they will have to pay by direct debit or standing order rather than it being deducted from pay. How will John McDonnell maintain Labour income from the unions if this drops substantially ?

Q2. Ordinary LP members pay a monthly fee with a minimum of £ 40 p.a. Most were stolid boring supporters of safe if boring MPs and local councillors not much inclined to wacky left wing ideas. They are not especially thrilled at being sidelined by the £ 3 specials. How will John McD. keep these people's subs coming in?

Q3. A big chunk of those voting for the Right Hon Corbyn, Watson et al were £ 3 members. How is John D. going to get at least another £ 3 out of them every month ?

Q4. Various independent sources of money for the LP have already dried up to the tune of millions. How will John McD make up for this?

Q5. The £ 3 specials love using 38, twitter and so on but real politics involves a lot of hard mundane work most of which is done by local constituency members. How will John McD get the £ 3 specials to bend an arm especially as the regulars will remember they have other things to do ...

Sums, sums, sums ..... money is the lifeblood of politics not strikes or the armalite. Labour is in danger of running out of puff.

If he wants people to 'Honour' the IRA terrorists, he should also 'Honour' the UDF ones of the same ilk.

Just as I thought that we were seeing the death throes of the Liberal Democrats with the formation of the coalition, I also believe that we are now seeing the beginnings of the demise of the Labour party.

Vive la revolution?

I am just glad it was the Labour Leader that has been won and not a general election. Bad enough where they are but with some of their political views they could be quite worrying. Corbyn Modified his statement on coming out of NATO to 'do away with the army'. well I thought the Tories had done quite a good job with that but at least we still have some army left.

what a lovely man

When he was campaigning to be Labour leader in 2010 Mr McDonnell joked that he would like to "go back to the 1980s and assassinate Thatcher".

IRA terrorists should be "honoured" for taking part in their "armed struggle".

John McDonnell, member for Hayes and Harlington, made his remarks at a gathering in London to commemorate the IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands, according to the Sun.

The MP praised the "bravery" of the IRA, whose "bombs and bullets" had resulted, he said, in the peace process in Northern Ireland.

Mr McDonnell told the meeting: "It's about time we started honouring those people involved in the armed struggle.

"It was the bombs and bullets and sacrifice made by the likes of Bobby Sands that brought Britain to the negotiating table."
