Tunnel stand-off that lasts for 40 MINUTES!

Jumping in to make a comment about the 'olden days' and traffic coming up the hill. That was always my understanding but I recall that one snowy day about 44 years ago I came out of work and had to negotiate a particularly steep hill. No gritters had been out at that time.

Sane car drivers had not tried to negotiate it and there were several cars left parked at the side of the road. I had no choice as I was miles away from home and had to pick up my young son on the way.

I was almost at the top when a bus began to come down the hill, effectively meaning I had to stop. He was no knight of the road, that bus driver, as he could clearly see me before he made his descent.

I had to carefully ease down and begin again. I managed to reach the top but no thanks to the supposedly professional driver.

I kept my cool but you can guess what I was thinking.

The same problem never seems to arise in the Channel Tunnel. A pity!

She seemed to have a long queue behind her though so probably wouldn't clear the tunnel safely to let him pass if she did reverse.

He had no one behind him so could reverse

All a bit childish though really :-(

I remember that the "News of the World" post war used to run articles entitled "Knights of the Road" for good deeds on the road......these two certainly wouldn't qualify........

That was in the days when you could likely repair a vehicle with a pair of stockings, pliers, screwdriver, and a handful of spanners.........

Bad as each other! If he "couldn't" reverse his car he shouldn't be driving, maybe she can't reverse either and would not admit it! :-(

If I was in her situation I might say oh for F**** sake! but I would reverse and let all the other drivers get on with their day! ;-)

I too wouldn't move if I knew I was right, I'm stubborn like that, equally I would reverse and apologise if I was in the wrong and I don't like reversing.

That man should sell his car and make better use of his bus pass. Clearly he is a danger to the road.
