I carefully packed the jars to make sure I had the right quantity and did a few more in case.

After I had simmered them in the syrup and packed the first jar I had very few for the second.

They are pretty damned scrummy as they stand and I think they will be lovely when they have festered for a bit.

Bit of luck yesterday, Tesco had 500gm bags of frozen onions on offer at 50p each. I bought five, and will make onion chutney with them as soon as I get back from Majorca. Last week I picked 300 (yes 300) pounds of apples, crushed them and pressed them, and after adding yeast I have 10 gallons of juice bubbling away in a carboy. That will keep me in cider for a while.

They are on simmering right now.

I might just chuck the apples out and drink the syrup. It is delicious.

I think plum chutney and when I get around to it tomato and apple chutney will be enough for me this year. we are still eating last years chutney. Oh I may do a few pickled onions if I can find the energy. So tiring that plum chutney. I have never made anything with crab apples but Daughter's Mother in law used to make jelly and it was lovely.
