I suggested to Ann in Glos earlier today on another thread that she might like to see the latest issue of Computeractive magazine which lists 19 things that only Windows 10 can do! (I haven't bothered to upgrade yet, Windows 7 seems to do all I need, but I expect I will upgrade eventually)

If all you want is a PC for shopping, browsing, e-mail etc then best buy by far is a Chromecast laptop.

Later this year Google will be launching "TV on a stick" which is a Chromecast computer that plugs into a HDMI port on yr TV. It will be about £ 100.

Windows 10 is by far the best OS that Microsoft have shipped to date. The main downside is that it is even more intrusive than Android with all manner of "what are you up to" sometimes under the guise of "helping". However nearly all of this can be turned off especially if you don't like/need a digital assistant - paperclip is now Cortana and just as irritating. I would have thought UG to Win10 from Win8.x for free is a no brainer.

Windows 7 is better for gamers. I myself run most games under Linux using SteamOS or Win7 as a virtual OS.

Microsoft have a massive problem in that the desktop/laptop is a dying technology increasingly the territory of the over 35s. Apple and Google Android have not only put their tanks on Microsoft's lawn with smart phones and tablets but are now taking over the TV itself. So far MS have managed a great OS (Windows 10) for an obsolescent paradigm and failed to make any real dent into smartphones, tablets and tv.

Thank you IGP, will have a look. I don't play games on here so not worried about that But Just wondering how it is generally.

Go for it, I say.

Read the thread "How are you getting on with windows10?" (which I'll nudge up) to see what others on here thought.

I lasted two days on 10 and then stripped it out. Hated the way it interfered with my games. Have also gone back to earlier version 8. :-(

We had Windows 8.1, which I didn't much like, and upgraded to 10, which is fine. I personally like it, but some people don't and if you find 8 OK then you'll probably be fine staying with it.

No-one can really know what you will like. It is a free upgrade, though, and I think you can revert if you don't like it. :-)

I have just been 'given the call' to upgrade from windows seven, I like windows 7 and can't see the advantage in changing. Other than 7 eventually not being supported by microsoft. So I don't know May, sorry.

I have windows 8 and don't know whether it would be advantageous to me to up-grade to windows 10. I have finished my Family Research and really just use my PC for ordering my groceries, craft supplies etc., and do not know whether it would benefit me or not, can anyone please advise?
Thanks, May.
