Local Family History Societies usually have parish records in either/or book and CD from - I have the book form of my local parish registers

Do you mean on GR

If so select birth, death or marriage. Enter your parameters then Search.

If anything comes up in PR the number if entries will show in the green column to the left. Click on those to filter.

Another free site is http://www.freereg.org.uk/ but there are numerous others depending on your geographical place of interest. Just do an internet search for the county/place and parish records.

Parish records are held in the County Record Office of the parish you need.

There are some online, via Ancestry and FindMyPast, plus the LDS have added some to family search. The latter should always be checked against the originals because the transcriptions are not reliable in many cases.
