I like a clean spoon every time!

OH's gt aunt used to fill one of those big flasks every morning (the kind you press the top to pour water into the cup) in order to save money during the day. Don't know what she saved though.

OH has one to take to the all-day cricket and says the water stays hot - last time to a lengthy England NZ game ( England won!).

Von, our son has one as well and I agree with what you say about making more than one cup. His is designed to dispense just one mug of water.

Bob - We don't all use a clean spoon every time ;-)

If you hold a cup while pouring boiling water into it, the water might splash on your hand and scald. Safety First!

couple of "silly" questions, aimed at blokes mostly,

why do they seem to insist on a fresh spoon every time? to stir/add sugar etc to their tea?

and as the Jug kettle pours atrociously why don't they fill the cup while holding it above a sink? instead of irrigating the worktop?

If I can find one, I'm going to get one of those metal 'fur' gatherers.

Not tried the new kettle yet, (I intend cleaning the cooker first - guess who isn't a domestic 'godess') but I'm fed up with either a sodden worktop or wet floor :-|

No, on the gas!!

but it should work if the element is below the bottom of the water container....

yeah the "pour " on some kettles is atrocious!!

Was it electric, Bob?

Bobtanian

Bobtanian Report 9 Oct 2015 23:31

My dad used to put a pebble in the kettle, to prevent it furring up!!

Von Report 9 Oct 2015 22:13

My son has one.
Ok for making 1 cup of tea but if making more than one you have to wait for the water to boil for each subsequent cup.

However I would go for a tap if I had a choice.
Constant hot water and simple to use. :-D

.....and yesterday, I bought a whistling kettle to go on the hob! :-S

Bought a R. Hobbs electric kettle about 6 months ago - it scales up incredibly fast (my last one didn't), filter doesn't work and it dribbles :-0

Funny you should add this thread,

Mine got delivered today, a hot tap not dispenser, its being fitted sunday,

my brothers always had one, i love them, and thought it would finish my new fitted kitchen off lovely, with no cluttered appliences on the work top. ;-)

id defo go for tap, not dispenser more expensive but less fuss, and instant boiled water on tap ;-)

There are a number of reviews about the model on Amazon, admittedly dating back to 2013. They are complaining about a TCP taste or smell, not just from their original purchase, but also the replacement.

I think we'll be sticking with our noisy, jet-taking-off kettle............which gets quieter the more it's fured up!

I think what you have at your club Bob would be a bit too much for my house, even though I drink lots of tea. I like a bit of fancy stuff Bob ??

Hello Susan Mrs?? if you say they are good, then I'm going to get one, if I don't like it, I'll send you the. Bill ??

we have, in our club a "Wall Kettle" stainless steel, about 12inches high 5 inches deep and about 9 inches wide.
it is designed to supply hot water for tea, coffee etc, but NOT to fill the sink for washing up, works ok as a buffet thingy. however it is also meant to be left on all the time, and occasionally you hear it warm up to temperature again in kind of pulses, so not sure of its power usage.....but believe it is rated at 2 kw

edit:
ours is plumbed /wired in and nothing like the Breville you are considering
which IMO ,that's just a fancy kettle.........

Thanks for that Pat, your Zip sounds great. The gadget I'm looking at sounds and looks fine, but just a bit concerned that the water actually boils. As you say the good thing is that there is no waste, and a cup of water boils in 40 seconds. It looks good, but that doesn't mean to say it is.

Thanks again :-D

I have a Zip tap. It filters water and delivers hot water for tea, coffee, gravy, boiled eggs , pasta, rice etc and chilled water.

It does have a lock on the hot side to stop a child getting scalded.

Had a version in UK with hot water and ambient temperature water again filtered.

Have had this tap 10 years, a couple of things have gone wrong but we sent for spare parts and OH replaced the parts.

Wouldn't be without it. No waste water for a start. There are other manufacturers but I've only used Zip ones.

Hope this helps. :-)

Edit forgot to say it is plumbed in our's stands alongside our sink.

Has anyone got a hot water dispenser instead of a kettle?

My kettle is so noisy, when it's on I have to turn the radio up, and friends have said the same, so I'm looking to buy a new one, and came across a filter hot water dispenser. If anyone has one, would like to know what you think about it.

Thanks :-D
