Trying to find a long lost relative

I need advice - I'm trying to find my mother-in-laws sister (margaret roberts) that was put into care when she was born, I found out that she had a son when she was 17 unfortunetly she put him up for adoption but through trying to find margaret I found her son and we are both looking for her with no such luck:-(. Margaret is a member of genes reunited however both of us have sent messages years have passed so we believe she no longer uses her account. We recently went to the scotland archives (as this is where margaret was born and where she had her son) and got an expert to search to see if she had got married or had anymore children this turned out to be a dead end. Can anyone give me advise on where to look next she might be living in England but I don't know where to go to do any searches :-(

If she moved to England or Wales you can search at freebmd.org.uk for marriages up to about 1970.

If you have found her on GR it is possible she has looked for her family, so may have posted on other sites. You could try googling her son's birth name or family names and see if anything comes up.

As you don't give an age, don't forget to try the 'obvious' routes, like Facebook , electoral rolls.

This post might be better on the Find Living Relatives board really, as there are a lot of people who will be willing to help, but they don't all read this board, it is worth reading the advice from GR on what you can post re living people to protect privacy
:-)

PS if she had a middle initial it will help with searches.

Hi Helen,

As you can imagine there are thousands with that name that isnt unique in marriages alone, same applies in deaths.
Any search of a marriage would render it near impossible as without certificate information for a matching fathers name would be out of reach to purchase each and every certificate that could apply.

Is there a middle name?also a DOB may help if a death applies but cant be taken as 100% its her for many reasons.

Edit,,,,,,,has your friend got his birth name and year and place on this site tree section incase its ever searched for.?

Unfortunately margaret has not got a middle name which makes the search even harder, I have a date of birth for her 16/11/1958 I have checked death records but no record for margaret. I have previously posted on find living relatives on genes reunited but had no luck. I have Googled margaret etc I have left messages on numerous sites but still had no luck, I have a electrol roll list of all the margaret roberts that living England, Wales and Scotland but as you can imagine with no middle name their are hundreds to go tjrough :-( I just thought I would try one last time on here to see if anyone had any ideas where I could go from here.

As she is an in law other than knowing she was in care does any of her family have info

Has Jamie got his adoption file for the info on her?

Helen

Helen Report 12 Oct 2015 12:35

Jamie got his adoption file it does not give much information only the reason why she gave him up for adoption and she was working at a hairdressers for a while before she had him it also confirmed she still goes by the name margaret Roberts. All the family know is that she was never adopted and that she stayed in care till she was 16.

Helen,

Have you ever thought she emigrated and she has married and had a family.
