So sorry to read this Shirley, but you must be relieved that you have been doing all the 'right' things. Although its a shame they don't seem willing to put him on a drip while he's at home, he would be getting 24 hour professional nursing care and access to medication at a hospice.

See how you feel after your tooth and cough are sorted out. If he has stabilised you may feel he could come home again. If not, then he will be in the best place possible, in a loving environment.

Well it's a nasty abcess. Been given some high dosage antibiotics for 7 days then the tooth must come out . The antibiotics though is used for lots of different complaints including chest infections so should hopefully sort out the chesty cough too.

Hubby was sleeping most of the time yesterday . Nurse came In and checked him and gave him another anti sickness jab . Doctor too came in and said his blood pressure etc are ok but he is dehydrated . Doesn't want to send him back to hospital as thinks that would be detrimental to him . Asked if I had considered a hospice where he can get medical care too . Talked it over with our daughter and she agreed if he needs medical care which he can't get at home then his needs would be better dealt with in a hospice . Sadly doc said he is deteriorating , but I have been doing a good job with him . That is reassuring as when I do something and then hubby is sick I worry if it was my fault . He didn't eat at all yesterday and only managed a few teaspoons of water every time he woke up .Nurse said that would be the best way to get the fluid in him as he seems to be having difficulty with swallowing from the beaker as its too fast .

He is hanging in there but sadly going downhill

Shirley, hope you get that tooth problem sorted quickly, you probably need some antibiotics too if there is an abcess. Also keep yourself well hydrated, as well as hubby, flush any bugs away. It's easy when you are busy to put off having a cuppa or a drink or to eat well but you need to stay as strong as you can.

Hope today will be as good as it can be

Oh Shirley,I am thinking of you.glad the catheter wasn't too painful for him.
My OH had a sheath catheter that I had to change which wasn't easy and wasn't too foolproof. I had a Kylie sheet that was good in case of "accidents",especially in the night.
Do hope you can get the respite and get out occasionally...I only got 2 hours from Crossroads, which I had to go on waiting list for..so find out all the help you can get as it's the carer who takes the strain.

Haven't tried hubby with the baby food as yet. He was sleeping most of the day so only managed a small jelly and some ice cream

District nurse assured me they often go off their food but the most important is to get fluid into him . Every time he wakes up a beaker is offered with encouragement to drink

Bee thing though I have gone down with a cold and it's on my chest . Had too a sore tooth since Monday and this morning I look like a lopsided chipmunk with my cheek all swollen ,must be an abcess so as soon as the dentist is open its on to them for an emergency appointment

Granddaughter is here this week so can come in and sit with him but she is off to Florida on Friday for a ten day holiday so I will be stuck to get out .

:-(

Dear Shirley.
As others have said. I hope you enjoyed going outside after so long indoors. It will do you good to get out for a short time. Did your husband manage any of the baby food. I hope you can get your sleep at night time. Take care and love to you both. xx <3 <3

Picking up on Kay's suggestion of flavoured mineral water ...... it might be an idea to make some ice lollies with it, very soothing for the soreness in his mouth and also increase your husband's fluid intake.

The nurse has been in and changed his catheter .it was done with not too much pain for him
She gave him the anti sickness injection too then later has put the oral antibiotic in for the mouth thrush

Said don't worry too much about food , let him have the jelly etc as he wants .its more important to get as much fluid down him as possible . Actimal or soft fruit.juice milk etc . Now he has had the injection it should be easier for him to keep things down

Our granddaughter is coming over this afternoon to sit with him so I can get out .will get some baby food jars which he may like .

Will be the first time out of the house in over two weeks so will enjoy it .

The carers first association have passed my name on to Agin care who do a 4 hour a week sit in so the carer can get out I will be getting that set up
